The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
Last Week
Halloween was fun! I carved the pumpkin, prepared treat bags, and put out our Halloween decorations. Then I dressed up as a modern, pandemic-era witch to hand out candy: flowy black blouse, black jeggings, my witch hat, owl earrings, and of course a black KN-95 mask. We got about 20-25 trick-or-treaters, which was pretty good considering it was a) a Monday and b) raining lightly but steadily all evening.
NaNoWriMo update: NaNoWriMo started on Tuesday. So far I have mostly stayed on track, which is awesome. It’s not always easy, and I’m not a fast writer, but I’m getting words on paper, and coming up with new ideas and scenes. Every day it gets a little easier and takes less time to get the words flowing. I fell behind a little on Saturday, due to getting distracted instead of buckling down to write. The class I took on No Prep NaNoWriMo (writing without an outline) has been helpful, though I think it will be even more so once I have a bit more experience and skills under my belt. Total words written as of 11/05: 7932. That puts me just slightly behind the 8335-word goal for day 5. With perseverence, I should be able to make up 403 words over the next week.
Other projects: I am also working on creating a program on the history of our local Spinners & Weavers Guild, for our 40th anniversary this coming Saturday. And I need to start my Christmas shopping. Plus I’m still knitting charity hats. This week is going to be very busy! After that, it slows down a little because the anniversary program research will be finished.
Twitter update: So far, no one seems to have a good alternative to Twitter for the authors-and-readers crowd. I guess I’ll keep following my favorites on Instagram, Facebook, or Tumblr for now, assuming they are on one or more of those. I haven’t deleted my Twitter account yet, but I’m not using it. Things are definitely not looking good for the company. Advertisers are pulling out, hate speech is up significantly, Musk laid off a bunch of workers illegally and is now being sued by them, and it looks like they will stop account verification tomorrow — the day before the election. What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished Into the West by Mercedes Lackey (ARC), the second in the Founding of Valdemar series. I’m still reading No Plot? No Problem!, a book about writing a novel in a month by Chris Baty, the founder of NaNoWriMo. But I haven’t been reading very much, because I’ve been spending a lot of my reading time either writing or brainstorming.
Listening to: I have put Circle of Magic book 4, Briar’s Book, on hold for now. It’s just not the right time for that particular book, and anyway, I’m focusing on listening to the Writing Excuses podcast.
Watching: The first two Harry Potter movies. We also took advantage of a trial month of Hulu to start Only Murders in the Building, Season 1.

Your writing sounds like it’s going very well. It’s not like I would think it would ever be the exact number of words or something. What’s important is you are doing it.
I think it’s great you have a busy week ahead. I need to focus on some priorities and not spend time worrying about things I can’t change right now like Twitter. I’ll see how things go. I’ve had Twitter forever before I had Facebook so it’s hard for me. Facebook is easy because if I just look at groups and chats, I don’t get all the ads and stuff. Somehow I never get to see friends’ posts just ads. I have both personal and book twitter and the book twitter seems ok so far but we’ll see.

The whole Twitter thing is a mess. And I imagine it will only get worse. It doesn’t effect me directly since I rarely use any social media at all, but I know a lot of people are looking for alternatives.

Congrats on staying mostly caught up with NaNo! It’s not always easy.
I hear you on the Twitter issue. For now I’m still there about the same amount as I had been, but I have always mostly lurked on Twitter anyway. I don’t want to miss anyone’s announcement of where they’re going. (I’ll let you know if I see anything concrete about a new home for the SFF writers we follow over there.)

Halloween had iffy weather here as well. My neighborhood isn’t suited for trick or treating (houses far apart and lots of hills) but I’ve heard reports Great job on your writing!
