The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

Well, it turned out that not everything was fixed on the blog by last Sunday. The new firewall was blocking the ability to leave comments. I called in another trouble ticket on Monday and after a few back-and-forth emails, we finally got it all sorted out by Wednesday.

Tuesday, I dropped off 12 hand-knit hats for Empowerhouse, our local organization supporting victims of domestic abuse and their children. I started knitting them in September and finished in November, setting aside my personal knitting to work on them. I plan to continue knitting hats for Empowerhouse and/or the local homeless shelter throughout the year, spreading them out so I can also continue with my personal projects. Thanksgiving was quiet… and delicious. And it will go on being delicious for the next week, because there are a lot of leftovers!

NaNoWriMo update: NaNoWriMo is almost over! I’m definitely not going to make the word count, but I’m OK with that, because I’ve gotten a lot out of doing it. Total words written as of Saturday, 11/26: 27,324. Where I should be: 43,342.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I haven’t been reading very much, because of NaNoWriMo. I finished Glamour in Glass by Mary Robinette Kowal (book #2 in the Glamourist Histories.) I’m still reading The Reluctant Countess by Eloisa James (ARC.) I have to say, this is probably my slowest reading month in… maybe ever? I am going to have to figure out how to balance reading and writing in the future.

I’m also still sort of reading No Plot? No Problem!, a book about writing a novel in a month by Chris Baty, the founder of NaNoWriMo.

Listening to: Season 2 of the Writing Excuses podcast.

Watching: I watched a few more Nature episodes, and on Thanksgiving we watched the first Star Wars movie. No, I don’t mean Episode I, I mean the real first movie: Episode IV, A New Hope. (Yes, we are both old enough to have seen that one in theaters when it first came out.) We followed that with Episodes V and VI, which wraps up our Star Wars rewatch for now.

Print: The Scent of Water is by one of my all-time favorite authors, Elizabeth Goudge. I found a first American edition in very good condition, complete with the dust jacket!

      I didn’t finish it either. I read enough books, but I didn’t get my reviews written! Hopefully I can catch up on some of them during December.

      Elizabeth George is a wonderful mystery writer, from what I hear, but I was actually referring to Elizabeth Goudge, a mid-20th-century British author of novels (historical and then-contemporary) and children’s books. She wrote The Little White Horse, which saw renewed popularity after J. K. Rowling named it as one of her favorite children’s books (the one, incidentally, that inspired all the lavish descriptions of feasts at Hogwarts.)

    I’ll be joining your backlist challenge as well. And I am not familiar with that Bardugo book so went looking and it’s the second in a duology so I’ll be reading the first one soon as I can. I just loved Ninth House and read the 6 of Crows too. So I’m pretty sure I’ll like this couple books.

    So glad you got everything fixed! What a headache! Elizabeth Goudge is an author I really want to read. I haven’t read any of her books but I know so many people who love her books. Leftovers are my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I’m not usually a big leftover eater but I make an exception this time of year. I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
