March 26, 2023 Sunday Post 5

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

In real life: Monday, I drove into town to run errands, then came home and baked banana bread. I stopped at the fabric store for some perle cotton to make more Dorset buttons, so I’ve been working on those this week; they are a group project for the fiber guild. Midweek, I made stew in the Instant Pot, which turned out delicious. My Christmas gift from Robin is coming in handy! I finished up a knitting project (but still need to block it and weave in the ends.) I did some indexing administrative paperwork, and did a little prep for a project that’s coming in early April. And I registered for the annual indexing conference, which will be held online again this year.

Did you know you can upload your own design to Zazzle or Cafe Press, to put on a t-shirt or tote bag or mug? You don’t have to sell it, and you can order a single copy. I just ordered myself a tote bag with The Bookwyrm’s Hoard logo, and I can’t wait to see how it comes out!

Writing accountability: My writing goal for March is 10,000 words, or about 350 words of fiction per day. So far, I haven’t been prioritizing it the way I want to. I’ll try to do better in April, although I’ll be busy with work projects, too.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished reading Without a Summer (Mary Robinette Kowal.) Then I went back to An Enchantment of Ravens (Margaret Rogerson), which I started on December 30, but had only gotten a few pages into before I broke off to read some January ARCs. But I was so wiped out on Wednesday evening that I started rereading Bound for Perdition instead. I am also still reading Unraveling by Peggy Orenstein, which I’m enjoying very much.

Listening to: I finished Hexed, the second Iron Druid book by Kevin Hearne, read by Luke Daniels, and wrote the review (scheduled for March 31.) I listened to all of The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie, read by Richard Grant; it’s the March book for the #ReadChristie2023 challenge. And I’m still listening to Season 4 of the Writing Excuses podcast.

Playing (occasionally): Wordle, the NYT Spelling Bee, Sudoku, and Pokemon Go.

Watching: All Creatures Great and Small (Season 3), Star Trek: Picard (Season 3), and Nature (assorted episodes from season 38; we’re working our way backward.) For comfort watching, I rewatched Nemisis, a 1987 adaption of the Miss Marple novel by Agatha Christie, starring Joan Hickson. And we started the Hemingway documentary by Ken Burns. It’s a well-made documentary, but while I recognize Hemingway’s mastery of the craft of writing and his enormous influence on modern literature, I’m still not a fan — neither of the man nor his works.

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Kensington for Murder at the Merton Library!

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Kindle: A Girl Called Samson (my Amazon First Reads pick for March)

Audiobooks: Airs Above the Ground (and my review of the book); Madam, Will You Talk?; The Moon-Spinners; The Blue Castle. All are books I have read multiple times, and love to reread; I’m looking forward to listening to them.

That’s fun about Zazzle and Cafe Press. I’ll have to look into it! Wonderful books! The Blue Castle is one of my absolute favorites and I really want to read Andrea Penrose. I’ve heard such good things about her books. Have a great week!
