Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Are you planning or reading anything in honor of the day? I have rehearsals this afternoon, so I plan to finish our youth chorus rehearsal by having them sing a simple but lovely setting of “A Celtic Blessing” in honor of Ireland’s patron saint. We sing it every spring as a farewell to our seniors, so most of them know it already.  After that, though, I’ll probably just come home and get back to work.

As for reading, I haven’t quite decided yet… I might reread Dark Witch, one of my favorite books set in Ireland. Or perhaps St. Patrick’s Gargoyle by Katherine Kurtz. Or I might start my new Stephanie Laurens book, which is also set in Ireland. Of course, I could just decide that the fantasy I’m in the middle of, about Green Riders (king’s messengers; their uniforms are green), medieval-style politics, magic, ghosts, the looming threat of Great Evil, and oh yeah, the occasional elf, is close enough.  My Week

There’s not a lot to tell about since Tuesday, when I finally got my blog back after it was down for 4 days. I’ve mostly been working, interspersed with a little reading, knitting, and spinning. The weather was so wonderful on Thursday—warm and sunny!—that I took two walks, one alone and one with Mr. Bookwyrm. Robin called to tell us they have seen Captain Marvel twice and enjoyed it, so we are looking forward to seeing it when we can.

This week, I’ve got an index to finish up (what else is new!) and some spinning and a sock to finish. Plus rehearsals for the two choruses I direct, and the one I sing in. And next weekend, we’re meeting my mom and stepdad for dinner at a distant cousin’s house, someone my mom discovered through her genealogy research. I think he’s older than I am, but not in my mom’s generation. It will be interesting to meet him and his family, and see what light he can shed on our shared family history.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I’m currently rereading First Rider’s Call, the second in the Green Rider series by Kirsten Britain. Since it’s not always the best choice for me late at night, I also went back and reread Nora Roberts’s Inn BoonsBoro trilogy, followed by Northern Lights. I’m currently rereading The Collector, alongside First Rider’s Call. (Click images for links.)

Listening to: Something Wonderful, a history of Rodgers and Hammerstein and their musicals. I bought the Audible version when I bought the ebook about a month ago. I’m glad I did, because it’s good listening while I’m walking, spinning, or doing laundry. I’ve also put some of the cast recordings in my iTunes so I can stop and listen to the music as I go along.

Watching:  Still watching Eureka, Season 2.

Library Books

I borrowed the library’s e-book of The Collector. I may decide to buy it at some point, but for now, the library copy is fine.

Purchased for Kindle

I’m not sure why I buy Stephanie Laurens books anymore. Compared to her early Cynster books, they are just sort of there—not bad, but not great, either. It’s loyalty, I guess—less to the author than to the very extended family of characters.

I bought Northern Lights because the library didn’t have an e-copy available and it will be at least a week before I make it to town, and for some reason, I really needed to reread it now.  Evil Under the Sun was on sale (and still is, as of 3/16.) I’m basically replacing my Christie paperback collection with ebooks…mostly because the print is too small in a lot of the older paperbacks, and partly because it frees up shelf space for things I really want in print. So I buy her Kindle books whenever they go on sale.

    That’s fun that you’re meeting a distant relative! For St. Patrick’s Day, my husband is cooking some corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes!

    I just bought Northern Lights as well because it looked so good. I got the hardcover and that book is a monster, not even sure how I am going to read it

    Glad you got the blog back up and running! I stopped by and got a 404 message and wondered what was up.

    I think, outside of Ireland, America is the only country that makes a big deal of St. Patricks day. I always find it amusing but it makes perfect sense given the volume of Irish descendants. 🙂

    Everyone is talking about Captain Marvel on their Sunday Posts today! and I have to admit, it’s the first I’ve heard of it LOL – I just don’t keep up with movies well at all. Or tv for that matter.

    We’ve enjoyed some beautiful weather this week too – I’ve spent a ton of time outside on my balcony (It’s where I’m now actually) and I’m hoping to enjoy it for quite a while 🙂

    Hope you had a nice St. Patrick’s Day! I didn’t read anything special for it, in fact didn’t do much at all, but we had company so it was still a nice day. 🙂

    I read the first Green Rider book on vacation a few years back and really liked it. I keep thinking I’ll continue the series but something always comes up *sigh*. I still want to though!

    I love nature pics, so it’s nice to see your snapshot. Yay spring! Ha ha and I can also attest that Capt. Marvel is quite good- I hope you enjoy it when you see it.

    I had forgotten about St. Patrick’s Gargoyle! I read it some time ago, and enjoyed it, but I don’t know if I kept my copy of gave it to a family member. Hmm. I’ll have to look for it. It’s a bit late for St. Patrick’s Day now, but still work re-reading!

      I think I gave my hardcover copy away when I got the ebook. I liked it, but not enough to spend the shelf space on it when there was a perfectly good digital alternative. In the end, I didn’t have time to reread it, so I just went on with the books I was already reading.

    My mom also did genealogy and it is fun. You’re reading lots of Nora Roberts. I have not read much other than the JD Robb books but I have just started to try to read more of them. Any favorites you recommend? I’m thrilled to say the weather is better here and I hope it stays that way! Have a warmer, nicer, better week!

      I actually got my mom started on genealogy. I did a bunch of research on our family tree about 10 or 12 years ago. But I haven’t had time, so she’s been doing it instead. Someday I will pick it up again.

      Yes, I’ve been on a Nora Roberts kick recently. I do have some favorites. For straightforward romantic suspense: The Liar, Whiskey Beach, and Tribute. For magical romantic suspense: the Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy, the Key trilogy, and the Three Sisters Island trilogy.
