My Week
It’s been nice to have the week off from indexing to try to get caught up on other things. I’ve done some spinning, a little knitting, a bit of blogging. And a lot of transcribing music into the computer to make digital recordings of the parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), so my chorus kids can practice at home.
The weather has gotten nicer; I’m looking forward to taking daily walks this week, and maybe even airing out the house. I have some personal projects I want to tackle, and I’ll probably drive into town one day to pick up my new lenses (for my glasses) and hit the yarn store. I have a ton of yarn in my stash, but almost no baby yarn… and our niece is expecting her first child.
Quick Challenge Update
I pulled out of my January/February reading slump—Yay! For the Goodreads Challenge, I’ve read 66 books this year, putting me 16 books ahead of schedule toward my goal of 190 books for the year. I’m doing less well on my other challenges (see them all here):
- one book read and reviewed for The Backlist Reader Challenge (out of 20)
- one book listened to but not yet reviewed for the Audiobook Challenge (out of 20)
- four books read but only one reviewed for PopSugar (out of 50, but I’m not trying to get them all)
- and no books yet for the Blogger Shame Challenge (out of 10)

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I read and reviewed an introductory craft book that I got from the library, Start Spinning (review.) To take away the taste of disappointment after last week’s A Conquest Impossible to Resist, I went back and reread a few of Stephanie Laurens’s older, better romances. Then I got approved for two ARCs, and plowed through both of them: Amanda Quick’s Tightrope and Heather Graham’s The Summoning. And I reread Nora Roberts’s Montana Sky, which I hadn’t read since first discovering her books 7 or 8 years ago. Finally, I’m still rereading First Rider’s Call, and I’m reading Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas. Plus, I’ve started rereading Snow White and Rose Red, a fairytale retelling by Patricia Wrede that I read in my early 20s and haven’t read since.
Listening to: Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers, read by Sophie Thompson… but I didn’t actually listen much this week.
Watching: We finished Season 2 of Eureka. We started Star Trek: Discovery, Season 2. This week I’m hoping to start A Discovery of Witches as well.

Library Books
I borrowed several spinning books to evaluate which ones I might want to own. (Yes on Start Spinning and The Spinner’s Book of Yarn Designs, so I’ve ordered used copies for myself. Color in Spinning goes deeply into dying yarn and blending colors on a drum carder. Since I’m not planning to do either in the immediate future, the book is more than I need at this point, but perhaps in a few years.)

I picked up three novellas this week. Can’t Escape Love sounds delightful, features a diverse cast, and it’s by Alyssa Cole. The Lynn Cahoon novella is part of a light cozy mystery series I enjoy. I’ve never read Piper Huguley before; The Lawyer’s Luck appears to take place at least partially in my college town, so that plus the synopsis made me eager to give it a try (and it’s free.)

I am glad you had a week off to get other things done. That is always nice! A walk sounds nice. Maybe I can convince my husband and daughter to take one with me later this evening. I am glad you are out of your earlier reading slump. I kind of feel like I’ve been in one–more of a reading slow down than an actual slump though. I’ve enjoyed my reading. Just haven’t felt much like picking up a book. I really want to see A Discovery of Witches, although I am not sure when that will be possible. I hope you love it. Your new books all sound good! I love the better weather too. It’s more rainy this week but warmer too. Everything is blooming.
I’m happy you got a chance to do some different things. Some of the best times are days where one can putter around doing things there is never time to do or reading something you just want to read now. Have a great week!

Nice walks and a visit to the yarn store sounds lovely and a well earned treat after all that indexing! I really enjoyed Montana Sky and have been thinking of rereading it. Something must be in the air because I’ve been doing some Nora Roberts binge rereads too! I’m reading Dance Upon the Air and I’m about to start listening to Shadow Spell just as soon as I finish my current audio book. I’ve preordered The Summoning and am looking forward to it and the Amanda Quick looks fabulous. Have a wonderful week!
