April 14, 2019 Sunday Post 20

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books! I‘m also linking to Stacking the Shelves cohosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene at Reading Reality.

 My Week

Mr. Bookwyrm was on travel this week. I had big plans for getting a lot done around the house while he was gone, but that didn’t happen. I’m so disorganized. Where does the time go?! However, I did get into town on several day to pick up my new glasses (or rather, new lenses in the same old frames), run several errands, and see one of my specialists. (I’m fine; it was just a routine check-in.)

A new index project came in Friday, so I’ll be working this week. It’s also Holy Week for Christians (the lead-up to Easter), so we will be singing in church services Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Easter Day will be relatively quiet with just the two of us. But we still dye eggs and prepare Easter baskets for each other!

If you celebrate Passover this coming week, I wish you happy Pesach and chag sameach! If you celebrate Easter, have a blessed Holy Week and a happy Easter! And if you’re celebrating another holiday or holy day this week, I wish you a very happy holiday as well.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading:  I was a very fickle reader this week, flitting from book to book and hardly finishing any of them. I’m almost finished reading Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas. I reread an old favorite, Elizabeth Marie Pope’s The Sherwood Ring (review); it’s the only one I actually finished except for the Mary Poppins audiobook. I’m still rereading First Rider’s Call, but I made some progress. I’m also rereading Snow White and Rose Red, a fairytale retelling by Patricia Wrede that I read back in the early 1990s and haven’t read since. And I’m rereading Break In, one of Dick Francis’s mid-career mysteries.

Listening to: I finished Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers, read by Sophie Thompson, and I’m almost done with A Wrinkle in Time, read by Hope Davis. Both readers are quite good. I like listening to books I’ve read before, because if my attention is diverted for a few seconds, I don’t really miss anything.

Watching:  We started watching Star Trek: Discovery, Season 2, but I didn’t watch anything while Mr. Bookwyrm was away. I had planned to, but just never got around to it.

New Additions to the Hoard

Purchased in Print

I bought all of these at the library mini-booksale. True Betrayals is signed by the author. I love Jan Brett and own a number of her books, but somehow I had missed The Easter Egg…and it’s perfect for the season!

Purchased for Kindle

The Rhys Bowen, Lisa Kleypas, and McCaffrey books were on sale, as was An Enchantment of Ravens. I’ve been reading the library’s paperback copy of Snow White and Rose Red, but the font is sometimes bothersome, so I broke down and bought the Kindle edition. And I decided to reread Dick Francis’s Break In this week (and probably its sequel, Bolt.)

Have a great week, and happy reading!

Glad to hear your check up went well. That’s good news. I am always tempted to read the “real” Mary Poppins story, but I know it’s a lot sadder than the Disney movie I adore.

I don’t know that I’d say “a lot” sadder, but Mary is a bit more stern. I loved them as a child, and there are stories in them that didn’t make it into the movie, like a birthday celebration at the zoo, and a chapter involving the gilt-paper stars that (apparently) used to come on gingerbread. I enjoyed listening to the first book, and I’m about to start the second audiobook.

I understand about not getting to all you hope to when you have time to yourself. I feel like that is the story of my life these days. I am hoping my mom’s upcoming visit in a month will be enough to give me that motivation I need to work on a couple of projects I’ve been meaning to get to between now and then. I think I may dive into another book soon as my current one just isn’t doing it for me. Maybe a break will help. I hope you enjoy your new books! They all sound good.

Have a wonderful week, Lark. Happy Easter!

Good luck with your projects, and I absolutely recommend switching books if the current one isn’t working for you. Have a wonderful week!

I so know the feeling of not having enough hours in a day to do everything. Your books look really good. I hope you have a great week and Happy Easter!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

I think it’s a ubiquitous feeling these days, with so many things vying for our attention 24/7. Have a lovely week!

I haven’t tried Felix’s books yet. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed them; it makes me a little more comfortable with trying them.

  4. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

I know the feeling on losing time. I have to write a to do list every day and even then I sometime lose hours. So many wonderful books! I really need to read the Kleypas and I’ve been really wanting to do some rereading. Maybe a reread of Devil in Winter is needed! Hope you’re having a great week!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

I feel so behind on everything that it’s overwhelming, and the distractability doesn’t help. I make to-do lists, too, and sometimes that helps a bit.

I think you will love the new Kleypas book. Maybe we should do a buddy or group Wallflowers reread sometime?
