Last Week

I had a telemedicine appointment with one of my doctors (routine) and finished knitting my socks, but other than that I haven’t gotten much done this week… including on my current index, darn it. I may be a bit MIA this week, as I will have to work pretty hard to catch up.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Once a Soldier by Mary Jo Putney (reviewed back in 2016) and started a binge reread of the Mrs. Pollifax “cozy spy-mystery” series by Dorothy Gilman. So far, I’ve reread The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax, The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax, A Palm for Mrs. Pollifax, Mrs. Pollifax on Safari, and Mrs. Pollifax on the China Station. They have been quite comforting, both because I know them so well, and because Mrs. Pollifax always survives and triumphs over difficult situations through her own determination, endurance, and creativity, aided by the goodness of others. They are also quick and light, so they’ve been helping me break out of a bit of a reading slump (and helping me catch up on my Goodreads Challenge a little, although I am still behind.)

The Dewey 24-Hour Readathon was on Saturday. I participated, but only a little, in between working (and sleeping in.) I read The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart, but I didn’t finish it.

Listening: I am listening to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Watching: We watched Men in Black: International, which was a lot of fun. Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have really good chemistry. We also finished season 3 of Warehouse 13, and we’ve been watching Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah’s comedy/talk shows, which they are producing from home. Previous to this week, I had been watching the Lord Peter Wimsey series starring Ian Carmichael; next up is Five Red Herrings.

    My son had a telemedicine appointment about three weeks ago and will be having a following up in a few weeks. It was definitely easier than having to go in. We saw Men in Black in the theater with $5 tickets. It is definitely not too serious and I really like both of them so fun all around. I like your new books. I need to try a Heather Graham book to see what I think. Have you read any of her others?

    Nice to see lots of comforting reading going on! I love the audiobooks I have of Harry Potter read by the brilliant Stephen Fry. I haven’t heard of the Mrs Pollifax series, but it reminds me of my reading of the cosy-crime series, Agatha Raisin by M. C. Beaton. I hope the coming week is a good one for you: filled with more comfort reads.

    The Mrs Pollifax series sounds lovely and comforting – and I also love the look of The Left-Handed Booksellers of London, which sounds really intriguing and rather fun. Glad you are enjoying the Lord Peter Wimsey series and I hope you have a peaceful, healthy week.

    I need to read The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax and the rest of the series. I listened to the first book a month or so ago and just had the best time with it. I bought the 2nd book immediately but of course haven’t read it yet. That’s great you were able to do a virtual doctor’s appointment. I had to go in for one Tuesday and it’s been so long since I’ve had to be anywhere at a specific time that I was paranoid I’d forget. I hope you have a wonderful week!

      I’ve had more bad days than good ones when it comes to productivity. I really need to turn that around! And yes, I agree that it’s magnified (or at least, the unfocused days are) by all that’s going on. Thanks for noticing the socks! I’m going to block them tonight (without sock blockers) so I can photograph them tomorrow for WIP Wednesday. 🙂

        I suspect I’ve had more bad/unfocused days than productive days, too. (And of course there are “meh” days that are in-between.) But on the days that have been really productive? It seems I get so much more done. I blame the anxious energy levels.
