May 26, 2019 Sunday Post 11

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

The Past 3 Weeks

I can’t believe May is almost over! The work project from you-know-where is still kicking my tail, so once again, I’ll be keeping this relatively brief. I don’t have that much to report, anyway, since most of what I’ve been doing is work. The blog has really suffered for it, too. I am so looking forward to the next project, which promises to be much easier and a lot more fun.

Other than that, I’ve spun a little wool, eaten too many cookies (because work stress), and gotten too little sleep–though at least the latter has given me time to read. Bless Mr. Bookwyrm, who has been keeping me sane and doing most of the cooking as well!

Next Sunday, I’m singing in a concert of John Rutter’s Requiem. It’s our first concert without our founding director, who retired in February. I miss her dreadfully, but the acting director has done a good job.

Make sure you check out this week’s giveaway, linked in the sidebar!

What I’m Reading/Watching (3-week catch-up)

Reading:  I read Saving Verity, an ARC by an author who is also a friend of mine (reviewed here.) I also read a way-overdue ARC, A Notorious Vow (Joanna Shupe), which I enjoyed but didn’t think was as amazing as a lot of other reviewers. I did like how the author portrayed the deaf hero, though. I reread three early Dick Francis mysteries, two romances by Mary Jo Putney, and a bunch of older Stephanie Laurens romances. Familiar books are about all I’ve been able to handle in the past week or two, because the index I’m working on is by turns depressing, disturbing, and infuriating. I need something positive and familiar to clear and calm my brain so I can get to sleep!

Listening to: I finished up The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Anne Hathaway’s narration is pretty good, with a nice variety of voices (even if they didn’t always fit the ones in my head.) I hadn’t reread it in years, so I had forgotten some of the incidents that aren’t in the movie, like the Hammerheads and the china country. Then I listened to The Marriage Spell, a historical-fantasy romance by Mary Jo Putney, and started in on Code Girls, which I am loving.

Watching: Star Trek: Discovery Season 2,  Eureka Season 3. Except that I don’t think I’ve watched anything at all in the last 10 days or so.

Library Haul

Purchased for Kindle (3 weeks’ worth!)

Most of these were on sale, except Saving Verity and the Stephanie Laurens books. I have the Laurens books in paperback, but when you’re reading in bed, in the dark, that doesn’t work very well LOL! And, well, sometimes I need a larger font size, too.

Have a great week, and happy reading!

Well, it is three weeks’ worth of books, not my usual week’s worth! And I usually read faster when I’m reading a book I’ve read before, so when I’ve been doing more rereading than reading new books, I tend to go through more books.

I hope we both enjoy the Kemmerer book!

Thanks! I need to write my Shupe review…once I get this project turned in. Enjoy your week, and the warmer weather!

Thanks, Shellyrae! I have a tendency to binge my way through an author or genre when I’m in the mood. I wish you a wonderful week, as well!

A pretty good mix of books for sure, and nothing wrong with some yummy cookies. Hope this project is finished up soon, so you can get back to having more fun and less stress. Hugs…RO
