The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

The past week is a bit of a blur. I was feeling overwhelmed and anxious last weekend, so I stepped back somewhat from reading news reports and being on social media, and gave myself more time to read and knit and get my equilibrium back. But yesterday, my stepdad was admitted to the hospital (not for COVID-19, thank goodness.) I’m not going to share details to protect his privacy, but would appreciate prayers if you are the praying sort, and supportive, positive thoughts if you’re not.

Tour de Fleece started yesterday. It is a spinning event — the fiber kind — that normally takes place at the same time as the Tour de France. Although the latter was postponed this year, the Tour de Fleece group on Ravelry decided to go ahead with the original dates. Over 10,000 spinners will be participating this year, including me. I will be trying to spin for at least 20 minutes a day for the next three weeks.

This afternoon, we are looking forward to a family reunion with my husband’s siblings and all our kids (our own Robin and our nieces and nephews) over Zoom. We couldn’t get together in person as we usually do each summer, so we’re trying this as a way to stay in touch, instead. So I may not be online much today. I’ll try to catch up with you all later in the week.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I went on a huge Lisa Kleypas binge-reread, plowing through most of the Ravenels series for the second time (or third or fourth, for the first three titles): Cold-Hearted Rake, Marrying Winterborne, Devil in Spring, Hello Stranger, and Devil’s Daughter. Then I started rereading a childhood favorite, Swallowdale. I bought the Kindle edition so I could read it in bed, since I haven’t been sleeping well. And on Saturday, I started Once Ghosted, Twice Shy for the COYER readathon in support of Black authors. I still need to finish Riviera Gold (ARC) by Laurie R. King. It’s good, but not soothing enough for bedtime and middle-of-the-night reading, which is really when I’ve been doing most of my reading this week. Listening: I finished up Lingo, a nonfiction book about European languages. I’m trying to decide on my next audiobook.

Watching: We watched The Body in the Library, a three-episode entry in the Miss Marple series starring Joan Hickson. For some reason, that series is one of my go-to series when I’m feeling anxious or sad. There’s something very comforting about Hickson’s Miss Marple that extends to the series as a whole. We also finished up Black Panther, watched another episode of Cadfael, and watched Thor: Ragnarok.

One of my ebook holds came in. I’ve heard good things about Get a Life, Chloe Brown, so I’m looking forward to reading it.

    Lark, it looks like a great week of reading and watching, but I am sorry to hear about your stepdad and your anxiety. I completely sympathise about the news, in fact I stopped watching it over a month ago now, and your stepdad will be in my prayers 🙏 Take care and I hope you continue to find escapist comfort in your reading. ❤

    I enjoyed Get a Life Chloe Brown which I got on audio from the library. I want to read the next one which just came out and have it on reserve at the library also. I’m reading steadily but so moody. I am managing to read my ARCs but instead of getting ahead I read stuff I feel like reading. I wish I could get to COYER book club ones as I even own some which are unread as yet. Sigh. I hope to scoot ahead a bit this week. I hope there will be less news or I may have to take a news break Stay safe and well!
