The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

It’s been an unpacking-and-catching-up sort of week, with lots of big and little tasks that I had put off while I was working so hard before our vacation. I’m trying to balance what I need to get done, like getting a new dehumidifier to replace the one that stopped working, with things I want to do, like blogging and spinning. And reading, of course!

Speaking of things I want to do… we’re going to see The Pirates of Penzance at a regional dinner theater this afternoon. The original Gilbert & Sullivan operetta has been adapted to take place locally and reflect our local history, which should be fun. I’ve performed in three or four productions of Pirates since I was about 13, in roles ranging from chorus to Mabel (the soprano lead.) I love the show, and can’t wait to see what they have made of it.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading:  My Stephanie Laurens binge-reread continued through the week, albeit slowly, until I finished the fourth book in the Brides Quartet. I think that’s enough for now, and I’m switching over to fantasy for a bit, starting with The Harp of Kings (Juliet Marillier; ARC.) I hadn’t realized when I requested the ARC that two of the main characters are the children of Blackthorn and Grim from the eponymous series, which I started but need to finish. So reading this one may push the Blackthorn & Grim series back toward the top of my TBR pile.

Listening: I’m nearly done with Code Girls. I’m not really sure what I will listen to next. I may try the audiobook of First Rider’s Call so I can finish it while still working on the ARCs on my Kindle. Other titles I’m considering include Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, A Natural History of Dragons, A Wind in the Door, or 101 Dalmations.

Watching: We started the fourth season of Eureka. They’ve introduced a new twist to mix things up a bit. I’m not yet sure how I feel about the twist, but I still love the show!

I took advantage of the Kindle Audible Match program and picked up some audiobooks at bargain prices. First Rider’s Call will, I hope, help me finish the book. Thirteen-Gun Salute was a present for Mr. Bookwyrm. And the other two are books I’ve been meaning to read but haven’t gotten around to yet.

    I hope you enjoy this production – it’s years since I’ve enjoyed a Gilbert & Sullivan production:). You have some good audiobooks there – I must remember to check out the special offers a bit more often – have a great week, Lark:)

      I’m still feeling really bad for Jo. But I’m only 7 episodes into Season 4, so I can hope that things get better for her. I like where things appear to be going for Henry, Jack, Allison, and even Fargo, though.

    I’ve only watched the first couple of series of Eureka. I did enjoy it, perhaps I should start from the beginning.

      Oh, that must have been fun! The Pirate King in this production was played like a genial version of Dustin Hoffman’s Hook, complete with mini-me (a “cabin boy” dressed exactly like the Pirate King, Cavalier wig and all.) I wish I could have taken pictures, but it wasn’t allowed.

        It was a lot of fun! There are so many fun ways to tweak Pirates just a little and keep it interesting. I love the music, too. (Well, most of it at least. It seems ever G&S operetta has at least one song that bores me.)

          I performed a lot of G&S shows in high school and college. I’ve been in most of them, and done tech for a few that I didn’t perform in. They are almost all fun, but I agree that there’s occasionally a song that doesn’t quite… quite.

      I really am! Maybe not quite as much as Hidden Figures, but almost. The scope is bigger, as there were more facilities and a lot more women involved in WWII codebreaking. But the author offsets the broad-picture sections with sections that follow a number of specific women through their war years.

    I know the struggle between what you want to do versus what has to be done. It’s hectic every day with moving this month. I am doing some sorting / throwing /donating and packing or unpacking or both every day. I hope you enjoy the production. I am excited for the Harp of Kings but doing very little reading right now. I liked Witchmark quite a bit.
