Sunday Post – Father’s Day, 6/21/2020

June 21, 2020 Sunday Post 7

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

Happy Father’s Day! I hope you are all well, and that you’re able to mark the day in some way. I’ll celebrate by calling my dad and stepdad, and spending time with Mr. Bookwyrm. I usually send cards to all three of them, but since I haven’t been going to the grocery store, I had to make do with online “virtual” cards. (Curbside delivery is great for social distancing, but not for buying greeting cards.)

It feels like I got very little done this week, but that’s not entirely true. I read a lot of news articles and posts related to coronovirus, Black Lives Matter, and the #BlackoutBestsellerList campaign, and posted about the latter two on the blog and social media. And I did a little spinning as well as knitting, plus the usual around-the-house stuff. But I hope I can be more focused and productive next week.

I will be mostly unplugged today; besides being Father’s Day, I need a day to rest and refresh my spirit. I’m going to read, knit, spin, livestream church service, and above all take some time with my husband, whether it’s curled up on the couch together watching a movie, or going for a walk (weather permitting.)

Last Week on the Blog

This Week on the Blog

  • Fantasy Books I Wish I Had Read as a Child – Top Ten Tuesday

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I got very little actual reading done this week, except in my audiobook (see below.) I made progress on Riviera Gold (ARC) by Laurie R. King, and I started and finished a reread of The Duchess Deal (Tessa Dare) for the COYER Challenge book club. I started rereading Cold Hearted Rake, the first of Lisa Kleypas’s Ravenels series. (I’ve been rereading at night, to help me get to sleep — or back to sleep.) I didn’t read much of The Book of Dragons, a fantasy anthology (ARC), at all this week. (Click titles to view on Goodreads.)

Listening: Lingo, a nonfiction book about European languages.

Watching: We watched Captain America, The Avengers, Hidden Figures, and two episodes of Cadfael — another reason I didn’t get much reading done. Last night, we started Black Panther; we’ll finish it tonight.

For Review or Review Consideration

Many thanks to Berkley (Someone to Romance) and Ace (A Dance with Fate)! (Click title for Goodreads link.)

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

I may have gone a bit overboard on buying books this week, but there were a lot of interesting Kindle books on sale! Print: A Hope Divided; Shadowshaper (on order; won’t arrive for a week or two.) Kindle (sale): The Guinevere Deception; Sweep of the Blade; Thorn; Murder on Black Swan Lane; The Winter Laird; Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles; Every Last Breath; Nothing to Fear; Let’s Talk About Love; Shadow of a Dead God; Audiobooks (Audible, Libro.fm, or Chirp): (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.

Have a lovely Father’s Day – and oh my… Didn’t you have an amazing haul this week?? I LOVED Sweep of the Blade, as I thoroughly enjoy this genre mash-up and am pining for more of this series, so I hope you, too, enjoy it. Have a great week.

We are indeed staying home and staying safe, as much as possible. I hope your dad has a good Father’s Day, and I’m sorry you’re not able to be with him.

I’ve been steadily knitting a few rows a day and almost finished with a summer cardigan. It sure is a nice way to relax. Looks like you got some good ones in your haul. Enjoy.
