July 18, 2021 Sunday Post 17

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

I had my mammogram this week, and my new indexing project arrived on Friday, but other than that it was an uneventful week. It’s been very hot and humid, with the occasional thunderstorm. I’ve done a fair bit of spinning, some reading (obviously), a little baking… all very ordinary stuff.

The next few weeks will be busy with the index. This coming Saturday, we’re doing another Zoom play reading, this time of Arsenic and Old Lace.

An uneventful week with a mammogram… Nope! I don’t believe you at all!!! Glad everything is okay.

Impressive stack of books you have for sure!

Thanks for visiting us earlier, have a good week ahead.

The mammogram was fairly routine for me; I get one every year. As for the stack of books, I lucked onto a sale of Patricia Moyes’s Inspector Tibbett mysteries, which I enjoyed reading over 30 years ago. I thought it would be fun to revisit them sometime! 🙂

I have to go for my Mamo soon. I am so behind with COVID. I am going to try and get an appoint in 3 weeks so I can have my husband drive me over. Parking is so annoying in that area.

I hope you have a great week, Lark! Happy Reading!

I’m really curious about your indexing projects. How did you get started doing that and can just anybody (with good skills) get an indexing job and how would one go about it?

I’ve been indexing for almost 25 years, having essentially apprenticed under another indexer (who happens to be my sister.) Many of my colleagues took a course to learn the craft. Here is an excellent essay on “Indexing as a Viable Profession.” There are courses you can take through the American Society for Indexing (ASI) or University of California Berkley, as well as courses and workshops by individual indexers. Here’s a link to a list of courses, courtesy of ASI. The MOOC mentioned in that list won’t prepare you to be a professional but it should give you enough of an overview to know whether it’s something you are interested in pursuing.

I’ve enjoyed Heather Wilds’ narrations so I need to try the Lady Darby series in audio. I really want to get caught up on the earlier books. Love the Patricia Moyes haul! I just kind of remembered her and have been wanting to find some of her books. I read a number of them back in college and remember really enjoying them. What Wentworth books have you picked up? You can read the Miss Silver books in any order. She may mention a previous character but it’s more of a knitting a matinee coat for so-and-so’s new baby or someone in the current book heard of Miss Silver from a character in a previous book. I think her later books are a bit better personally – like #4 and up but that’s just me. Enjoy the Arsenic and Old Lace reading! That’s one of my absolute favorite movies. I love how Cary Grant comes completely unraveled by the end of the movie. Have a great week!

Ordinary can be good! I got my mammogram recently too, and it was oddly reassuring? (Not the results, which were good, but the act of the exam itself.) It felt like, since the hospital was doing routine testing again, things might finally be looking up? Not the reaction I had expected to have from a mammogram.

Here’s to another good and ordinary week!

Yay! I’m glad you got your mammogram, which is so very important! I know it’s not the most fun thing in the world to do, but so necessary. Have an awesome week! Hugs, RO

Sounds like a lovely week… Well, except the mammogram. I don’t appreciate the “boob smooshing” involved in that, lol, but everything else sounds lovely. 🙂
