Ten Authors I Haven’t Read… But Want To

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is BLAH BLAH.

Authors I haven’t read yet, but really want to

Kelley Armstrong‘s Stitch in Time series was my sister’s Christmas gift to me this year. She knows my taste pretty well, so I’m looking forward to reading them.

Jane Austen. I am embarrassed to admit I haven’t read Austen yet, but she has been on my to-read list forever. (Don’t judge.)

Frances Brody writes historical mysteries set in post-WWI Britain, featuring a war widow whose husband is MIA and presumed dead. They sound very good.

T. Kingfisher (also known as Ursula Vernon) writes fantasy, and has been recommended by a number of authors and bloggers whose opinions I respect.

A.J. Lancaster‘s Stariel series has also been recommended by several of the same people.

Elizabeth Lim‘s YA fantasy novels look and sound amazing! I have Spin the Dawn and Unravel the Dusk on my shelf to read this year.

Susan McDuffie‘s Muirteach MacPhee mystery series, set in medieval Scotland, sounds right up my alley. My mom has met the author, and gave me the first four books a few years ago. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t read them yet, but hopefully I’ll start them this year.

Madeline Miller has been on my list since Song of Achilles came out… but what I really want to read is Circe.

Brandon Sanderson. Robin has been recommending the Mistborn trilogy for at least 5 years now, and so have a couple of other young family members.

V. E. Schwab is another of the authors my offspring, Robin, has been recommending for years—specifically, the Shades of Magic series. Robin also gave me The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue for my birthday, so that’s on my “read it this year” shelf. I plan to read it over the next four weeks, since a friend and I will be discussing it in mid-May.

Megan Whalen Turner‘s Thief series has been on my TBR list for ages.

(OK, I cheated – that was 11.)

Honorable mention

  • Rachel Caine (Great Library series)
  • Cinda Williams Chima
  • Charles DeLint
  • P. Djèlí Clark
  • Kate Morton
  • C. L. Polk
  • Rebecca Roanhorse
  • Margaret Rogerson
  • Rainbow Rowell
  • Catherynne Valente (Fairyland series)
  • C. L. Wilson

Kelley Armstrong is on my list and the book Circe should be. It’s always amazing what authors fall through the reading cracks. I hope you read Jane Austen soon and you love her!

I’m so embarrassed not to have read Austen yet. But last fall, I bought a used copy of P&P so I could annotate as I read…so hopefully this year!

I have at least one of her books on my TBR shelves (physical; I might have one or two more on my Kindle.) So I will get to her eventually!

Great list! I do think you’ll enjoy Kelley Armstrong’s work—or at least, some of it. She writes in a variety of different genres and so you might not like all of her work. (I don’t read her thrillers even though I love her urban fantasy, for example.)

And of course T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon is a must read.

I will eventually read more Sanderson, but of the 3 books of his I’ve read so far, 1 was good, 1 was meh, and 1 I DNFed, so he doesn’t have a great track record for me.

Your honorable mentions are a great list in and of themselves. You could have easily written two posts with this prompt, I see. 😉

Your reviews are among those that put T. Kingfisher on my list! And yes, I could easily have written two posts for this one. My TBR list is intimidatingly long!

No judgement but yes, you absolutely must read Jane Austen. So many mixed feelings about her from people, but I think you really will enjoy her books. I love her!

I also adore VE Schwab, she’s a top 10 author for me. Kelly Armstrong I’ve only managed to read one or two times but want to read more.

I have many of the others on my TBR list as well!
