WIP Wednesday – 06/10/2020: A scarf and a shawl

June 10, 2020 WIP Wednesday 3

WIP Wednesday (for “Work In Progress”) is a meme where we share our current fibery projects. It was started by Nicole @ Book-Wyrm-Knits, who also reviews books at book-wyrm-reads

Knitting

I have made a lot of progress on my Daphne scarf. The pattern calls for 12 repeats, and I’ve done almost 11. I think, though, that I want the scarf a little longer, so I plan to keep going until I like the length.

I also wanted a more mindless knit. (Daphne requires lot of counting!) So I started a basic, easy-to-follow asymmetric shawl/scarf pattern, called (appropriately enough) Asymmetrical Scarf. I’m using a ball of no-name yarn from my stash. I think it came to me years ago from a fellow choir member who was reducing her stash before moving overseas. I believe it’s wool or a wool-nylon blend, though there might be a little cotton in it as well. I really like the colors; they remind me of crocuses.

I still have several unfinished WIPs from last year and even earlier, including the neckwarmer I’m knitting from handspun (I’ve been hung up on the buttonholes) and a cowl I made to give my stepmom. I hope to make progress on them in the coming week.

I love to see these. I am finally knitting, a little, for the first time in over a year. But I’m also excited about teaching my daughter. She has started a blanket I intended to knit. I got the yarn in 2005. I wrote up a pattern for her, based on a pattern I used once before. Also she is making her first hat, a slouch hat, which I have made 3 for her with the same pattern.

I’m so glad you’re knitting again! And that’s great that your daughter is learning to knit also. I taught Robin to knit back when they were in… 8th grade, maybe?… and now they are a better and more creative knitter than I am, which delights me!
