WIP Wednesday (for “Work In Progress”) is a meme where we share our current fibery projects. It was started by Nicole @ Book-Wyrm-Knits, who also reviews books at book-wyrm-reads.
Spinning
I haven’t done much spinning since the stay-at-home orders came down.Which is really rather silly, because it would be very soothing… But I did spin up the three green rolags I made on my blending board back in February. I plan to spin up a little undyed wool to ply with it. It won’t make very much yarn, but enough to do a little accent stripe on something, or combine with other yarns in a scrap shawl or scarf.
Knitting
I finally finished my Rose Marl socks! The pattern is the vanilla 8-stitches-per-inch sock recipe from Anne Budd’s Getting Started Knitting Socks, modified for knitting on two circular needles (size 1.5). I went with a 3-1 rib for the leg and the top of the foot. It’s easy, mindless, and doesn’t require a separate cuff. The yarn is Paton’s Kroy sock yarn in Rose Marl: hence the name of the socks.

The socks are great! And so is the yarn. I agree, I don’t know why I haven’t been spinning during this either. It is soothing, but I haven’t felt like it. *shrug*

And that’s fine. Given everything that’s going on with the pandemic, our creative outlets ought to be fun, not something we feel we “should” be doing. You’ll spin when you’re ready to! I am thinking of doing Tour de Fleece on Ravelry this summer; something about the [virtual] camaraderie and the challenge makes it more fun.

That’s true, and I’ve been trying lately (even more than normal) not let things give me guilt-trips. It’s mostly working. 🙂
The Tour de Fleece has been a fun time when I’ve participated. Maybe this would be a good summer for me to play along again, too.

I love that almost peridot green color! If I ever find clothing in that color it’s an automatic buy! The socks look cozy and warm and just gorgeous!

I love that green, too; it reminds me of new leaves in spring. I sprinkled in a few silk threads in greens and yellow and oranges when I blended the rolags, to add teeny pops or glints of color. I’m excited to see how it comes out when I ply it with a neutral cream.

I was really intimidated by socks until I tried them and discovered they aren’t all that hard — at least the basic ones. Lace, now… lace is hard. Well, hard to keep track of and make sure you don’t make mistakes, anyway! 😀
