WIP Wednesday – 6/26/2019

June 26, 2019 WIP Wednesday 2

WIP Wednesday (for “Work In Progress”) is a meme where we share our current fibery projects. It was started by Nicole @ Book-Wyrm-Knits, who also reviews books at book-wyrm-reads

Spinning

I’ve been away on vacation or doing related packing/unpacking for the last two weeks, so there hasn’t been any spinning. However, before I left, I bought a set of gently used Ashford carders from a fellow spinner on Ravelry. And since I got back, I’ve picked up a couple of plastic dishpans (Walmart) and a used colander and salad spinner (Goodwill), so I’m pretty well set for fleece-processing equipment. Time to wash, dry, and card the lamb fleece I was given by one of my choristers!

I’ve still got some of the mohair-wool blend leftover  — about 1/4 of one bobbin and maybe 1/3 of another. I will probably chainply each of them, so as to keep the resulting yarn a 3-ply of sorts, to more-or-less match the 3-ply I made from the original three bobbins (until one bobbin ran out, that is.)

And when that’s done, I’m looking forward to starting a new spinning project, even if I haven’t yet made up my mind which yummy fiber to spin next!

Knitting

I decided not to take the as-yet-unstarted baby blanket on vacation. There wasn’t enough of the neckwarmer to keep me busy, so I left it behind, too. Instead, I packed yarn and needles for another pair of socks using Ann Budd’s “8 Stitches Per Inch Socks” recipe.* I cast on on the first day, and despite not spending a lot of time knitting during the trip, I’ve already turned the heel and am half-way through the heel gussets. I kept the pattern simple, just a 3×1 rib on the cuff and top of the foot. I always forget just how fast socks can go.

*It’s a recipe rather than a pattern, because it gives instructions for the number of stitches, and how to do the heel flap, heel turn, gusset, and toe decreases… but which stitch pattern you use for the cuff and foot, and how long you make each of those, are entirely up to you.
