The novella introduces Kat Holloway, a cook in Victorian London, and the charming but mysterious Daniel McAdam, and sets up the relationship we see at the beginning of Death Below Stairs: attraction on both sides, tempered by a thread of distrust and more than a little caution on Kat’s part, and secrecy on Daniel’s. Here, too, are Kat’s daughter Grace and the cheerful street urchin James. The mystery is puzzling, the murders not too gruesome. In short (as befits a novella!) Historical and cozy mystery lovers alike will enjoy this delicious little amuse-bouche before diving into the series.

I’m just so amazed that you were able to binge the whole series so quickly! I enjoyed both this prequel and Death Below Stairs, so I’m looking forward to reading book 2.
