There have been good adaptations of Little Women, and so-so adaptations. I’m looking forward to finding out which one this is. It has some excellent actors in it—can’t wait to see Meryl Streep as Aunt March!

Okay, I may have added some bookish books to my TBR now, too…
I try to shop local whenever I can. Unfortunately, enough small business have already been impacted by Amazon (and other similar big box retailers) that sometimes it’s hard to find what I’m looking for locally. 🙁

I hear you! I like to shop local when I can, too. But when you live in a semi-rural community, “local” can mean a half-hour or 45-minute drive (one way.) There’s no bookstore in my county, for instance; nowhere to buy clothes, shoes, linens, housewares, or electronics other than Walmart; no movie theater; nowhere to get specialty foods or high-quality tea, toner for my printer, or other specific items; and no medical specialists. I’ve stretched “local” to include the nearest small city, Fredericksburg (that 1/2-hour to 45-minute drive I was talking about, depending on where I’m going.) I try to consolidate my errands there so I get all of them done on one day, but now that Robin isn’t living at home and attending classes anymore, and I’m no longer doing PT twice a week, I only get to town once or twice a month. So (sigh) Amazon gets a lot of my business by default. It’s quicker than driving to town for the one thing I need (like toner.) And I have this hope, probably misguided, that it uses less fuel because the delivery truck is making lots of deliveries, instead of me taking my car on 25 miles to town and back.

Yeah, I live in the suburbs and I’m close enough to cities so you’d think that I should be able to find everything I need locally. Unfortunately it can be hard to find stores that actually carry what I’m looking for sometimes. But I agree that Amazon is still often faster and possibly (hopefully) uses less fuel since they’re already delivering. It’s really frustrating, because I want to be able to shop entirely locally. Oh well. Do what we can, I guess.

Agreed; we do what we can, and try to balance the benefits and costs of buying local vs. buying online.
