Sunday Post – 10/29/2017

October 29, 2017 Sunday Post 32

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

I’ve been working hard , and will be for the next several weeks: one index is due this week, and the other about 2 weeks later. We celebrated my birthday quietly, with quiche and cake and Netflix. Mr. Bookwyrm gave me the Wonder Woman DVD, and is taking me to see Mary Poppins (the musical) at the Virginia Repertory Theater in late November. (They did the fantastic production of In the Heights that we saw in June.) Robin sent me a wonderful card, and a beautiful, soft teal cowl. I took a selfie to send to her. It’s not a great picture of me, and the sun was behind me so there’s lens flare, but it’s a good photo of the cowl!

The Orkin guy came Thursday, and found a live snake in one of the glue traps in the basement—ugh! It wasn’t very big, but it shook me up pretty badly, especially because he didn’t warn me before he showed it to me. (I’ve got a bit of a snake phobia.)

Something on Sunday

Something on Sunday is hosted by Gin Jenny at Reading the End. The idea is to counteract the gloom and anxiety many of us feel by “writ[ing] about something that kept you on your feet that week… something that matters to you.”

I’m always surprised and touched by the outpouring of birthday wishes on my Facebook wall each year. It lifted my whole week! Though I sometimes find Facebook annoying or even depressing, I can only be thankful for the way it has helped me stay in touch or get back in touch with people from both my past and my present. And hearing from so many of them on my birthday brought joy to my heart.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I put The Silver Branch by Patricia Kennealy-Morrison aside for the time being. I reread The Liar, the Key trilogy, and Whiskey Beach, all by Nora Roberts, and also read The Search and The Three Fates by the same author. Those two count toward The Backlist Reader Challenge.

Listening to: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Watching:  A couple more episodes of Father Brown. We didn’t get around to last weekend’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery, so we have that to look forward to this week.

For Review or Review Consideration

Many thanks to Random House and Harlequin/HQN. I’m so excited for Rachel Hartman’s new book, Tess of the Road! And isn’t that a wonderful cover?
It turns out, once I downloaded it, that The Pines of Winder Ranch is a reissue of two of RaeAnne Thayne’s older Cowboys of Cold Creek series, so I may have already read them…but that’s OK, since I probably haven’t reviewed them yet.

Purchased for Kindle

Have a good week, and happy reading!

I am happy to hear you had a nice birthday. The snake thing would have freaked me out too. You got some great books this week, and I hope that you enjoy them. Your selfie is pretty and the cowl is too, I really like the color. Have a wonderful week.

Happy birthday! Glad that you had an awesome time celebrating it. I hope this week is filled with awesome reads and you have a wonderful reading week. Happy reading. ?❤️

I’ve been enjoying a Nora Roberts binge, but I’ve kind of run out, so until I buy some more or get to the library, I have to move on to something else. 🙂

  3. La La in the Library

Yay, another fellow October baby! A lot of bloggers have October birthdays. Happy birthday!

At some point I am going to start listening to my Harry Potter audiobooks while simultaneously reading along with my illustrated editions. I grabbed The Goblins of Bellwater and the Newbery book. They were great prices!

    Have a wonderful week. ☺

Happy (belated) birthday to you, too! Listening to the HP books while looking at the illustrated version sounds like a terrific idea. I’ll have to try it sometime.

Happy (belated) birthday! Low-key celebrations are my favorite. What a beautiful cowl scarf! And I love that color. Uh, thanks for the warning, Mr. Orkin! Ack! How about a heads up next time, right? Geez. Lots of great new book additions. My husband read the Red Rising trilogy and really enjoyed. Hope your week is off to a great start!

Robin is a terrific knitter, and she knows me really well — that’s one of my favorite colors. Yeah, I could have done with a warning about the snake. Mr. Orkin will know better next time. I hear good things about Red Rising, but I have no idea when I’ll get around to it. I tend to grab stuff that’s on my TBR list or wish list whenever it goes on sale, regardless of whether I have time to read it.

The cowl is gorgeous and makes me wish I could make something like that. Also, looks like you’ve bought a ton of good books lately. As for the Orkin guy…me and him would have been enemies from that moment on and also, I’d be moving – severe snake phobia here too!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

She’s a very good knitter—and very fast. As for the snake, it’s not the first time, but the last one was in the garage. This little guy made it almost as far from the garage part of the basement as its possible to go (and still be in the basement.) I felt sorry for him, but he did NOT belong in my house, and I really, really didn’t want to look at him! The Orkin guy’s nice enough most of the time. He didn’t know about my snake phobia, and was very apologetic, so I forgive him.

I actually think it’s a great picture of you 🙂 you have lovely hair!
Thanks for visiting my blog and have a great week 🙂
Red Rising is like the best book ever, BTW. Have fun with it 🙂

Thank you, Lory! According to Robin, it’s Old Shale, which is very similar to feather-and-fan. Or maybe vice versa? Yes, you should post a picture—I’d love to see it!

  7. Charlie

I see you’re on a Nora Roberts streak. LOL. I like that photo! I think it’s very good! Happy birthday!!

  8. Lola

Happy birthday! Sounds like you had a nice quiet celebration. I agree Facebook can be annoying at times, but it’s also a great way to stay connected and in touch and a birthday is a moment when you really notice that. Nice book haul! I hope you’ll enjoy your new books and have a great week!
