December 3, 2017 Sunday Post 10

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

Just a quick note this week, my friends, because I’m trying to finish an index and pack before I take off for a week visiting my dad and stepmother. I’m feeling overwhelmed with all I need to get done! At least I’m feeling much better physically, and have shaken off whatever I had last week. I’m very grateful for that.

Mr. Bookwyrm took me to see Mary Poppins on Friday. The Virginia Repertory Theater did a very good job. Mary Poppins and Bert were both excellent, and the children were talented and appealing. Mr. and Mrs. Banks were both played with more depth and character development than they have in the movie, and Mr. Banks in particular had some very poignant moments. I felt that the additional music written for the show didn’t measure up to the original music (though thankfully much of the original music and lyrics appear, if not always quite where you expect them.) And the story differs from the movie musical differs in some significant but understandable ways—no tea party on the ceiling, no dancing penguins—but on the other hand, it pulls additional material from the books that didn’t appear in the movie, like Mrs. Corrie and the gingerbread stars. All in all, it was a delightful evening and the highlight of an otherwise frustrating week.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I continued my Robin D. Owens binge, buying the books I hadn’t read yet. Thanksgiving week, when I was sick, I reread books 141-8 and read book 149. This past week, I read books 1410-13 and I’m currently reading #14, none of which I have read before—so they will all count toward The Backlist Reader Challenge.

Listening to: I finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and started Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Watching:  A couple of Father Brown episodes were all I had time or energy for.

Lots of great books this week! Enjoy your visit with your father and step-mother! The Mary Poppins productions sounds excellent! I’ve always been a fan of the movie but found I didn’t care for the book when I read it as an adult. I do like they added a little more from the book to the play to make up for not being able to do the animated scenes! Have a great week!

Good luck with your packing and finishing off your tasks. I am feeling the same way trying to get our yearbook completed on time. Depending on other people to do their part before we can do ours is VERY frustrating. They don’t care about deadlines or the fact that there is so much prep work to be done for their page. I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip!

That’s the pits that you were sick over Thanksgiving, but thank goodness you don’t have to travel being under the weather, so it’s great to know you’re feeling much better. I adore Harry Potter everything, the movies, the memorabilia, etc., but for the life of me, I just can’t get into the books. It’s crazy, I know. Glad you were able to finish up your books and to get in some tv time too. Hugs…RO I love Mary Poppins!
