The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
My Week
I flew out to Utah on Tuesday to spend a week with my dad and stepmom. It’s been lovely to see them, and to visit with a few of my cousins who live here as well. I did have to bring my work with me, so I haven’t had as much time to just sit and chat as I’d like. I’m looking forward to turning the current project in tomorrow. Between visiting and working, I didn’t get any blogging done. I hope to get back to a more regular schedule in January.
Later this week, I’ll fly down to New Mexico to visit my mom and stepdad, our daughter Robin (who is living with them), and my sister’s family. Mr. Bookwyrm will join me there for Christmas. Things I’m looking forward to (besides being with my family, which always tops the list): seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi; viewing the “River of Lights” festival in Albuquerque; spinning on Robin and Owl’s shared spinning wheel; playing lots of games like Carcassonne (a board game) and Pounce (a card game); plenty of time to knit; and listening to Christmas music.
Something on Sunday
Something on Sunday is hosted by Gin Jenny at Reading the End. The idea is to counteract the gloom and anxiety many of us feel by “writ[ing] about something that kept you on your feet that week… something that matters to you.”
Just being with my dad and stepmom has been wonderful. They are in their late 80s but still going strong, despite some health challenges along the way. I treasure my time with them.

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I’m still on a re-reading kick; I reread Robin McKinley’s Spindle’s End and started Beauty, both of which I love. I’ve also started Of Murder and Men (Lynn Cahoon; ARC) for a tour I’m doing this coming week.
Listening to: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I’m about 20% in.
Watching: Not a thing, due to work and travel.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! I don’t think I could pick a favorite from the series, but that book has to be one of my favorites, at least. It sounds like you had an eventful week. I never heard of the River of Lights festival before but I looked it up after reading your post and the pictures look beautiful. They remind me of some lights I saw in Riverbanks Zoo in South Carolina. Thank you for sharing!

It used to be one of my least favorites, because of how much I hate Umbridge, and because Harry spends practically the whole book being angry. Then I realized that (duh) he’s suffering from PTSD, and it suddenly made so much sense. Now it’s up there with my other favorites from the series.

I’m glad that you had a good time with your family (even if you did have to work through it). Have a good week, and happy reading! 🙂

It sounds like you have some awesome things planned! I can’t wait to see The Last Jedi…I really want to do opening night because there is something completely amazing about watching in a room with fellow geeks. There is no shame for gasping out loud when the whole room is doing it, lol.
I hope you have a great week!

I just started listening to the first Harry Potter book during my commute. I thought it would be a good way to get a reread in!

Safe travels. I have been listening to and enjoying Potter on audio. It is fun just listening and not having to review.

Enjoy your travels! I think one on one trips can be really wonderful. I’ve been traveling back and forth to my grandparents (who are in there 90s) a good bit and I’ve really enjoyed the time with them. Enjoy your reading! I think you’ll like Of Murder and Men. Have a great week!

If you enjoy fairytale retellings, I highly recommend the work of Kate Forsyth’s, a master of the form. Her novels Bitter Greens, The Wild Girl, The Beast’s Garden and most recently Beauty in Thorns are wonderful reads.

Happy Monday Lark and hope all is well! I don’t know that many of us get real vacations done these days due to social media and computers, right? (lol) I’m sure glad you were able to spend valuable time with the family, and that you plan to do the same next week. That River of Lights Festival sure sounds fun! Hugs…RO

Yay for getting one project off your plate! That’s always a good feeling! This is always a super busy time for a lot of people. It’s kind of a do what you can do time of year. We all know we’re also busy doing that yearly housekeeping, especially if you’re like me and leave things until the end of the year to clean up for the year and plan for those new challenges in the new year. I hope you enjoy your trip to NM! It sounds like a lot of fun!!
