The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This Week
I had lunch with a friend on Tuesday—in person! It was a lovely afternoon, very warm, but comfortable enough to sit outside in the shade. We talked for hours. It’s the first time we’ve gotten together since the pandemic began. She’s an author and a dog breeder; we’ve known each other since our children were 6. Her daughter also joined us for part of the afternoon… and I got to see their 4-week-old puppies, which are absolutely adorable!
On Wednesday, our occasional play-reading group met over Zoom for the first time in several months. Rather than one full-length play, this time we read several comic one-act plays. It’s always fun to get together with them.
Saturday, the local fiber guild (of which I am currently Vice President) had our first hybrid meeting since the start of the pandemic. It’s the first meeting we have held in the guild’s studio space, but we set it up so that those who are unable or uncomfortable attending in person can still attend via Zoom. We plan to make all our monthly meetings hybrid from now on. I am usually one of the “uncomfortable attending in person” people, but because I was giving the after-meeting program, I showed up in person. (With a mask, of course.) I gave a demo on how to use a blending board to make rolags or batts for spinning.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished rereading Not Always a Saint (review) and continued my Mary Jo Putney rereading binge with the first few books in her Rogues Redeemed series: Once a Soldier (review), Once a Rebel, Once a Scoundrel, and Once a Spy. I also started Remember Love by Mary Balogh, the first in her new Ravenswood series.
Other books “in progress” are Miss Percy’s Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons by Quenby Olson, and The Siren of Sussex by Mimi Matthews. And I want to get back to The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia McKillip.
Listening to: A Psalm for the Wild-Built, by Becky Chambers. I’m still waiting for my second hold on Invisible Women by Carmen Criado-Pérez, so I can finish it.
Watching: Around the World in 80 Days (the 2021 series starring David Tennant)
Added to the Hoard this week

I’m glad you had fun with your friend! I miss my friends. I haven’t seen most of them since before the pandemic because we live on opposite sides of the country.

The Siren of Sussex is on my TBR, and I need to hurry up and read Olivia Dade! My copy of Spoiler Alert is sitting on a book shelf across from me, so that I keep seeing it and feeling guilty for not reading it yet. One of my best friends is a dog breeder and getting to play with puppies is one of the best parts of hanging out with her some times! Hope you have a good week!

Have a good week!

Sounds like a fun week! I really need to look into joining a local fiber guild or something similar now that we’re learning how to better manage COVID and vaccines and boosters are widely available. I had intended to do that in 2020… and then haven’t looked into it since.
And thank you again for the reminder about Miss Percy’s Guide to… Dragons! I have been meaning to open my copy of that book for a while now and keep forgetting.
