The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
It’s officially Fall! And thanks to Tropical Storm Ophelia, it feels like it: cool, rainy, and blustery. Ophelia should make her way out of the area by mid-afternoon. We’re due for highs in the high 60s through Wednesday, and in the low 70s for the rest of the week, with nighttime temperatures in the 50s. Time to dig out the sweaters and the handknit socks, and put out my fall roster of teas.
In real life: I finally got unpacked and caught up on laundry after my trip, but I’m nowhere near caught up on housework yet. Of course, that’s a never-ending process!
I had several more medical appointments this week, mostly routine check-ins with various specialists, and various yearly tests. Don’t worry, everything’s fine, or at least unchanged. I have a few more appointments in October and November.
I ordered a new phone. My current phone still works, but it is holding a charge for shorter and shorter periods of time, it is getting glitchy (sometimes the apps lock up or slow way down), and it is at least 7 years old—old enough that pretty soon the manufacturer won’t guarantee continued security updates, so it’s not worth replacing the battery. The new phone should get here midweek.
Also, I committed to doing NaNoWriMo again this November. I hope to use it to get myself back to daily writing. (Actually, I hope to start the daily writing and researching now.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I reread Sailor’s Jewel and Carry On by Celia Lake, plus the novellas Forged in Combat and Complementary. Then I read the novella Four Walls and a Heart, which came out Friday. That led me back to Pastiche, because the MCs in Four Walls and a Heart were first introduced in that book. (I’m still rereading it.) I also started The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murphy, intending to read it for book group. The main character is fascinating, but something about the writing feels stilted, somehow, so it’s been slow going.
Yesterday evening, I discovered that Lish McBride’s second Uncanny Romance novel was already out, and bought it right away. I loved the first one, A Little Too Familiar, so I decided to reread it before starting Rough Around the Hedges. That may have been a mistake; I couldn’t stop reading and finished A Little Too Familiar at 2:50 this morning. Clearly, I loved it just as much the second time around!
And I’m still partway through both Claws and Contrivances by Stephanie Burgis and Anything with Nothing, a Valdemar anthology that includes a novella by Mercedes Lackey (both books are ARCs.)
Listening to: I continued with Shattered by Kevin Hearne. I’m also listening to Season 6 of the Writing Excuses podcast.
Playing: Wordle, Connections, and the NYT Spelling Bee. Since I had to be out and about a lot this week, I also played a fair bit of Pokemon Go.
Watching: We are nearly done with Season 2 of Strange New Worlds. I absolutely loved the self-aware musical episode!

The weather has been amazing, it has been raining by me all weekend but I kind of don’t mind since it just makes it more fall like!

I love the look of the Celia Lake series and Lish McBride books – I just need to restrain myself at present as my TBR pile is rather high and I haven’t been reading so much, recently! I hope the medical appointments go off smoothly and you have a great week.

I love the cooler weather and our rain was just a little Friday and all day Saturday. Feels cozy. I sent you a FB messenger link about a workshop in Maryland with authors signing and then writing workshop which looked good and very inexpensive, mid October. I’d go for just the signing if I were going to things. Shattered was great so I hope you are enjoying it.

A Little Too Familiar sounds really cute! I’ll have to take a look for that one. Sounds like a fun, fast read.
