The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: I saw the orthopedic PA this week, and she says my wrist is coming along pretty well, but she’s going to send me for OT beginning in a month. Although I still have some pain and my grip is weaker than I’d like, I was finally able to do a little knitting and spinning this week. (The spinning is easier for now.) It has been over two and a half months since I have been able to craft with my hands, and even though it’s still a little uncomfortable physically, it feels really good to have wool in my hands again.
We drove up to my cousin L’s house for a family get-together. We saw her and her husband a month or so ago, but this is the first time I’ve seen any of the others since my aunt’s memorial service a few years ago. My mom and stepdad are still visiting friends in the area, so they came too.
Decluttering: We’re still making progress, but after 30 years, we have accumulated an awful lot of stuff. The priority right now is making room for the books, clothes, etc. from upstairs so we can schedule the flooring company to replace the floors. We have sold a few items, like the bikes we hadn’t ridden in over 20 years. I let go of most of the stuff from my years teaching English and drama. I also found some work I had done for my college Costume Design class (the design artwork for two imaginary productions and the papers I wrote to go with my designs), but I’m keeping those.
Writing accountability: My minimum goal is an achievable 250 words every day (fiction or other creative writing; book reviews don’t count.) Because we’ve been working on the basement in the evenings, I only wrote 3 days this week, still working on the first draft of a long fanfic. Word count for the week: 1814 words (my goal was 1,750 for the week, so at least I made that.) I am using 4theWords to gamify my writing sprints.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading/Listening: I should have been reading all the books I’m in the middle of. Instead, I listened again to The Winter Sea (Susanna Kearsley; read by Rosalyn Landor), then started the sequel, The Firebird (read by Katherine Kelgren.) These audiobooks have been holding (even riveting!) my attention, whereas the books I was trying to read…weren’t. I’m not even sure why; there was nothing wrong with the books I was reading, and normally I would have plowed through them quite quickly. Maybe I’m just needing the familiarity of a well-loved favorite right now, or maybe my eyes are acting up just enough to make reading harder to concentrate on. Maybe the “reading” portion of my brain is more occupied with the story I’m writing. I have no idea. I’m just glad that listening is working right now, even if reading seems not to be.
Most of last week’s (last month’s) books are in a holding pattern: Becoming Crone by Lydia M. Hawk; A Deceptive Composition by Anna Lee Huber (a buddy-read with Sophia Rose, who reviews at Books of My Heart and elsewhere); and The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love by India Holton (ARC.)
Listening to: In addition to The Winter Sea and The Firebird, I have been working my way through season 10 of the Writing Excuses podcast.
Watching: I finished season 2 of A Discovery of Witches and started season 3. And we finished All Creatures Great and Small, Season 4.
Playing: NYT word games, mostly Wordle, Connections, and the Spelling Bee. The NYT is beta-testing a new game called Strands, which I like. I also played Pokémon Go a few days.

I’m glad you are able to do some crafting again. Here’s hoping that your therapy will make it easier to do the things you love again.
We have been slowly sharing our unnecessary things with the world, too. It took new flooring to make me clean out several less-obvious spots (under the beds, in the closets) where I’d been keeping books after I got rid of eight bookshelves. It is hard for me to let go of many of these things.

It’s especially hard to let go of books, isn’t it? For now, I’m not pruning those as thoroughly as I will have to whenever we move.

Good luck with your fanfic writing! And relocating stuff for refinishing floors! Lots to do this week. Have fun anyway.

Thank you! Yes, there’s a lot to do this week (and in the next several months.)
Anne - Books of My Heart
You’re doing so well. I’m glad you were able to do a bit of spinning and knitting. Bravo on the decluttering (which I need to do). Nice you are still getting some extra family time.

Thank you, Anne! I appreciate the encouragement. I get overwhelmed easily, and the affirmation helps.

Hooray for healing! I’m not surprised that spinning is easier than knitting, but I hope knitting gets to the point where it’s easy again soon, too.

Oh I feel you about the decluttering. It’s only been six years since I moved and we’ve already accumulated so much clutter, I can’t imagine what 30 years of clutter would look like for us! You’re inspiring me to declutter too! Good luck to you on that and your other endeavors! I hope you get your word count goals every day!
