The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: This week has been quite a mix of busy and quiet. Mr. Bookwyrm put together my new standing desk and the drawer unit we bought last week, and I rearranged my study slightly to make them work. I can’t start using them until I sort out what I’m doing about a chair mat, though.
The deck guys came Monday and Thursday to finish things up, including replacing two sliding glass doors, and the contractor came Saturday to do a few final touchups and pick up his check. On Monday, the painting contractor said he is over Covid and could probably finish up our bathroom this week, but he may have been overly optimistic because I haven’t heard from him yet. On Thursday and Friday, I started on the new indexing project. And on Saturday, we bought new curtains and a new curtain rod for the living room.
I’m knitting again! I did not, however, get back to writing this week. I’m still somewhat tired, and haven’t been getting enough sleep due to all the late nights watching the DNC followed by early mornings because the contractors were coming. Now that the renovation work is mostly done, I plan to a) sleep a little longer in the mornings and b) take the dust cover off the treadmill and get back on it for short periods every day. I need to build my stamina back up!

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching (since 7/14/2024)
Reading and listening: I reread Three Tales of Gabe & Rathna, a collection of short stories or novelettes that augment The Fossil Door (which I reread last weekend.) Then I reread the pair of novels that feature the same main characters some 15 or 20 years later, during World War II: Old as the Hills and Upon a Summer’s Day. All are by Celia Lake.
After that, I reread Mary Jo Putney’s forthcoming historical romance, Golden Lord (ARC; due out in November 2024.) It’s the second in the Dangerous Gifts series that began with last year’s Silver Lady (which I reviewed last November.)
Listening to: One podcast episode from Science Friday; it wasn’t a week that lent itself to either audiobooks or podcasts.
Watching: Wow, the DNC was so uplifting and inspiring! I didn’t start watching until late Tuesday evening, but I went back and watched a bunch of the memorable speeches from earlier that night as well as Monday.
Playing: A little Pokemon Go, and my usual NYT word games: Wordle, Connections, Strands, and the Spelling Bee.

I enjoyed the DNC convention also. I watched it all in 2020 but I don’t think it went so late at night. So I couldn’t watch that late this year. It has to be a huge relief to have the bulk of renovations complete. Take care of yourself as you get things in place and get back up to speed.

I missed the DNC because I’ve been traveling but if I had been home I would have watched it like you did. I hope you manage to make up on missed sleep.
best, mae

I hope you get a chair mat SOON so you can start using your new desk. It must be a relief that the renovation work is almost done so you can start getting back into your life again.

I missed the DNC because I’m such an early-to-bed girl. I’m also going back and listening to the speeches.
Renovations are disruptive, but it’s so worth it, I think, once the work is finished and everything is put back into place.

Renovations are so stressful. I’m glad the end is in sight for you! I play Wordle, Connections, Strands, and the Mini. I am terrible at Spelling Bee so I’ve given up! I hope this week is more restful!

Fingers crossed on getting the painting done soon. I’m playing general contractor while we are trying to get our rental house ready to sell and I’m not enjoying it at all. I imagine it’d be even worse if I was trying to live in the house at the same time! Yay for back to knitting! I hope you have a wonderful week.
