The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: We got our annual Covid shots on Sunday. By evening we were starting to feel achy and miserable, which lasted through Monday evening. I felt a bit better Tuesday, but not back to normal until Wednesday. The whole thing put me behind with my work, and I haven’t caught up yet.
If you read last week’s Sunday Post, you may remember that I had discovered a leak in the roof above our bathroom. The roofer came on Tuesday to fix the leak, thank goodness. At least, it should be fixed, but he says we won’t know for certain until the next heavy rainstorm… which will probably be sometime while we’re away.
Speaking of being away, we flew to New Mexico yesterday to visit Robin, my parents, and my sister’s family. Mr. Bookwyrm will head home in a few weeks, but I will stay until mid-October to continue supporting a family member who is recovering from surgery. If I don’t post much in the next several weeks, don’t worry—I’m just busy!

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching (since 7/14/2024)
Reading and listening: Given my stress levels this week, it was entirely a comfort rereading week. (And no, I’m not sleeping well; hence the quantity of books I got through. Also, several were short. And I had a travel day, including a 4-hour plane ride.) Last Sunday, I finished my reread of Eclipse by Celia Lake, and followed it up with two related novella-length “extras”: Tea and Meetings (a collection of scenes and stories featuring the main characters of Eclipse) and With All Due Speed (which follows the MCs from the end of Eclipse to their wedding.) Then I reread Illusion of a Boar before settling in to read a cycle of books focused on Geoffrey Carillon: the prequel novella Ancient Trust (the prequel novella), Goblin Fruit (Carillon’s romance), and then On the Bias, the romance of Carillon’s right-hand-man, Benton. (Carillon and Benton are very clearly modeled on Lord Peter Wimsey and his former sergeant-turned-manservant Bunter, though there are some obvious and significant differences.)
Playing: A little Pokemon Go, and my usual NYT word games: Spelling Bee, Wordle, Connections, and Strands. I also played a few games of Wingspan on Steam.

We got our COVID boosters last week too and have been really exhausted. I’m on the upside now and really other than a bit of a sore arm and tiredness I was fine. My poor daughter followed it up with a double ear infection so she’s still struggling. I hope you have a good trip and get to relax and enjoy family after all your work with the renovations and decluttering.

Good for you for getting your covid boosters. They’re not available here in Canada yet, but I’m hoping to get my covid and flu shots on the same visit as usual this year.

I do love some good rereading time. I have a stack of books I’d like to reread. I need to get my covid shot in the next couple of weeks as does the rest of my family. I’m hoping it doesn’t hit any of us too bad but if it does it does I guess. I hope you’re having a wonderful week and getting caught up a bit!

Yes. With the Covid vaccine I figure: better a couple of days of feeling icky but not actually being sick, than a week or more of being sick (with the risk of long Covid or other long-term effects.) Same with flu shots, especially now that I’m getting closer to the years where any respiratory virus carries a higher risk of severe illness than when I was younger.

We are getting ours. I was going to combine with flu shot, but think I will allow at least 2 weeks. LOL Hoping this week is a good one!

Yes, I prefer not to get them at the same time, too. Although I did see one study that suggested you get a stronger immune response to both vaccines if you get them at the same time.
