The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: We were finally able to reschedule the painters, and they came this week. They had left one bathroom unfinished late last summer, when the whole crew came down with Covid. Since then, our schedules haven’t meshed with theirs—until now. They replaced the bathroom ceiling, finished painting, and installed a new medicine cabinet. It’s going to be so nice to have two usable bathrooms again! They also painted the front door a lovely deep red.
I’m slowly cataloging and shelving my books. (I’m working on a post about this, so stay tuned.) Right now, I’m focused mostly on my fantasy and science fiction collection. It’s going to take months to go through everything, but it will be worth it. Ultimately, I also want to add archival mylar dust jacket cover protectors to the first editions, signed copies, and other special books, as well as any where the dust jacket is torn or fragile.
5 Good Things:
- I had a wonderful catching-up phone call with a writer friend who is battling cancer. We talked about her health (fair, considering) and mine (good), and touched briefly on the disastrous political situation, but mostly we just talked about books that made us happy. I now have several new mystery series to add to my TBR!
- I was over the moon to get the ARC of Sangu Mandanna’s new book, A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping.
- Cataloging my books has unearthed some unexpected surprises, including several books I hadn’t realized were first editions, a signed Tamora Pierce book which I had forgotten was signed, and a book inscribed to me by the staff of the bookstore where I worked my last year of college.
- We have had several days of beautiful (if chilly) weather, and I have been enjoying hearing birdsong in the trees.
- I’m finally spinning again! (Making yarn, not riding a stationary bike.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I read This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I started Jewels of the Sun (Nora Roberts), a reread, but then set it aside to start (and finish) The Martian Contingency by Mary Robinette Kowal (ARC.) I also started Marriage and Murder by Stephanie Laurens. I’m not sure why I keep buying and reading her books; I think it’s mostly nostalgia, because they certainly aren’t as good when she was with Avon.
I have temporarily paused A Pirate’s Life for Tea (Rebecca Thorne) but plan to pick it up again soon. I’m not sure if I’ll go back to Jewels of the Sun, though, at least for the near future. That series was never a favorite, and it’s not meeting my mood right now—but that’s always subject to change.
Listening to: Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale is on pause until I can borrow it again.
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation (for at least the 3rd time.) We’re now on season three.
Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan.

First of all, I’m glad your friend is doing ok. Fair when dealing with cancer is a win.
I totally thought you meant riding a stationary bike. EEEE. Seriously though – so cool that you’re spinning.
Anne - Books of My Heart
It’s always good to progress on projects like painting or cataloguing books. But you are making a good balance with reading and spinning, too.

I got the Sangu Mandanna book too and am so excited! I can’t wait to read it and hope it is good as the first book. I’m glad to see you getting back to spinning – and yarn sounds way more fun than a stationary bike. I’ve taken a few spinning classes and was pretty convinced I was dying through most of them. I’m glad your friend is doing okay and that you both talked aobut books that made you happy. Have a great week!

Yay for getting your bathroom painted and done finally! And I hope Mandanna’ newest is as good as her first book, which I totally loved. Have a great week. 😀
