Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Newest Additions to My Collection.

I received so many wonderful books for Christmas! I can’t wait to dive into these. (But most will have to wait until after the New Year, since I need to pack them in a box for the drive home.)

Hardcover

The Silmarillion, written and illustrated by J. R. R. Tolkien. This edition was just released this year. I also have a copy of the first American edition (but not the first printing), but this edition has Tolkien’s own illustrations. (from my husband)

Visions of Beautyby Kinuko Craft. This is a collectible book by an artist whose work I love. If you read fantasy, you may have seen her work; she has done several of the covers for Patricia McKillip’s novels, as well as Juliette Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing and Cybele’s Secret. (I didn’t even dream that Mr. Bookwyrm would get this for me… but he did. And it’s absolutely gorgeous.)

The Choice, by Nora Roberts. Can’t wait to read it! (From my husband)

An Enchantment of Ravens, by Margaret Robinson. This has been on my TBR list for several years, so I was over the moon to get a copy from my COYER Secret Santa. Thank you, Kai!

Babel: An Arcane History, by R. F. Kuang. An anticolonial novel that takes place largely in Oxford, with a magic system that revolves around language, specifically translation? This sounds very much my sort of book. (From Robin, who knows me very well. They also say the book is excellent.)

King Arthur: The Making of the Legend, by Nicholas J. Higham. I’ve always been interested in the Matter of Britain, particularly the Arthurian legends, and the question of whether they have any historical basis at all. Back in the late 70s and the 80s, I read just about everything I could find about the myths, as well as a number of the retellings. Now I’m excited to dive into the more recent Arthurian scholarship, starting with this book. (From my husband)

The Twelve Days of Christmas, illustrated by Laurel Long. My mom always had a fondness for this song, and passed it along to me. I’m always on the lookout for beautifully illustrated versions, and this is a new illustrator for me. (From my husband)

The Sleeping Beauty, by Mahlon H. Craft, illustrated by Kinuko Y. Craft. A gorgeously illustrated version of the traditional fairytale. As I said above, I’m totally in love with Kinuko Craft’s art, and I love illustrated fairytales, so this will be a real treat. (From my wonderful husband)

Paperback

Crucible of GoldBlood of Tyrants, and League of Dragons, by Naomi Novik. I love the covers of this new edition of the series! My wonderful husband gave me the first six in the series over the past year, and the final three — the only ones I haven’t read — for Christmas this year.

The Day It Snowed Tortillas / El día que nevarron tortillas and The Coyote Under the Table / El coyote debajo de la mesa, by Joe Hayes. These bilingual collections of folktales in short-story form will help me practice reading in Spanish. (from my sister, brother-in-law, and niece, in support of my recent efforts to revive my college Spanish via Duolingo and other programs.)

5-Ingredient Instant Pot Cookbook, to go with my new Instant Pot! (Book from my husband, Instant Pot from Robin, who called first dibs on giving it.)

Audiobooks

A Master of Djinn, by P. Djèlí Clark, narrated by Suehyla El-Attar. I have had this on my TBR list since I first heard about it, so I’m really looking forward to it. (From Robin, who loved it.)

The Cartographers, by Peng Shepherd, narrated by a full cast. This is another book that has been on my TBR list since I first heard about it. (Also from Robin, who enjoyed it.)

Kindlebooks

Past Tense and Little Knell, by Catherine Aird, one of my favorite British mystery writers. (From my husband)

I hope you received some wonderful books for the holidays, too!

You did have a nicely bookish Christmas! I love Kinuko Craft’s art as well. I stumbled on her through Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing and Cybele’s Secret. I had one of her collections on my wishlist for a while but put it on hold while we’re traveling so much.

I’m also excited about The Cartographers and A Master of Jinn. The new covers of the Novik books are gorgeous! Happy reading!

These all look amazing! I hope you enjoy reading them, once you get them back home. 🙂 I got some nice books from my wishlist as well, and I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who gets cookbooks for presents. (I don’t know about you, but I love cookbooks as gifts! I can rarely justify buying them for myself.)
