Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I Want to Read in X Genre.
Top Ten Fantasy Books I Want to Read
As usual, these aren’t really in any order. And I couldn’t pare it down to 10, so I did 10 stand-alones and series starters – stuff that will be new to me – plus 9 books in series I’m already following.
Stand-alones & series starters
- The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern)
- Uprooted (Naomi Novik)
- Shades of Milk and Honey (Mary Robinette Kowal)
- The Thief (Megan Whalen Turner)
- The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Catherynn M. Valente)
- Dreamer’s Pool (Juliet Marillier)
- Summers at Castle Auburn (Sharon Shinn)
- Graceling (Kristen Cashore)
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane (Neil Gaiman)
- Silver in the Blood (Jessica Day George)
From series I’m already reading
- The Slow Regard of Silent Things (Patrick Rothfuss)
- Unbound (Jim C. Hines) – Libriomancer #3
- Shadow Scale (Rachel Hartman) – sequel to Seraphina
- The Forgotten Sisters (Shannon Hale) – Princess Academy #3
- Crucible of Gold (Naomi Novik) – Temeraire #7
- The High King’s Tomb (Kristen Britain) – Green Rider #3
- Winter (Marissa Meyer) – Lunar Chronicles #4 (or 5, depending on where you put Fairest) – coming in November 2015
- The Gift of Power (Exile part 1) (Tamora Pierce) – Tortall series: the beginning of Numair’s story, coming in 2016
- The Doors of Stone (Patrick Rothfuss) – Kingkiller Chronicle #3, coming Telu knows when
Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library
I knew this list was going to be dangerous. The Shannon Hale series and Patrick Rothfuss both look fantastic and I want to read Night Circus, Shades of Milk and Honey, The Thief, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, anything by Jessica Day George, etc, etc, etc!

Sounds like we ought to start a book club! 😉

Great list! You mentioned a lot of great titles that I read and enjoyed–The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland, Shades of Milk and Honey, Night Circus, The Ocean at the End of the Lane–Hope you enjoy all of them when you get around to them 🙂

I’m glad you like so many of these – makes me think I’ve made good choices! A bunch of these are on my list of the 20 backlist books I MUST read this year (my Top of the Hoard challenge), so hopefully I will get to them by the end of the year.
Kaja
Gah, I keep adding new books to my TBR! 🙂 Great choices. I only read Graceling and I remember liking it a lot, but I never read the sequel for some reason… I haven’t read A Slow Regard of Silent Things, either – to be honest, I’m afraid it’ll be a terrible disappointment. Ditto for Shadow Scale, though I have an ARC of that so I’ll be reading it soon.

I have the Shadow Scale ARC too, and a copy of A Slow Regard for Silent Things. For that matter, my mom gave me Graceling when it came out and I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully this year!
kimbacaffeinate
I have Night Circus and The Thief and so need to dive in and read them. Awesome choices Lark

Thanks, Kimba! I swear I will get to both of those books this year. (Maybe during the Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge!)
Cheryl @ Tales of the Marvelous
So I read down this list going, “oh, oh, good books!” (Night Circus and The Thief and esp. The Girl Who Circumnavigated…) and some I want to read too (Dreamer’s Pool and Unbound and Winter) and THEN I saw the publication date for the new Tamora Pierce book. 2016? Really? Delayed AGAIN? Well, hmph…

[sighs] Yup. Delayed again, according to her website. Oh, well. I’d rather she take the time to write the best book she can.
Elizabeth
There are some books on this list I need to read too haha!!

I hope we both get time to read them – and enjoy them!
Tabitha (Not Yet Read)
These all look so fabulous. I don’t terrible the Sharon Shin I’ve but will have to check it out. I loved Dreamers Pool and the Fairyland books are awesome. I really need to read some Kristen Britain and Jim Hines!

I haven’t read any Sharon Shinn yet, either, but I had heard really good things about Summers at Castle Auburn as well as her other books. This one turned up at a library sale about 2 years ago and I’ve been meaning to get to it ever since. Good to have your recommendation on Dreamers Pool and the Fairyland books – thanks! And yes, by all means read Jim Hines’s Libriomancer series – if you love books generally and fantasy and SF in particular, the series is fantastic – lots of references to other books!
Jan
This is a great list, Lark! A number of these are on my list, too, and some have been for a long, long time–like The Thief. I never seem to get to that and I even own a paper copy. So many good books on your lists.

Thanks, Jan! I own The Thief, too, and have been wanting to get to it for at least two or three years now. This is the year, I swear it.
Hadas @ Common Room
Reading the Ocean at the End of the Lane now and really enjoying it. Still at the very beginning though. Hope you post a review. 🙂

I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I hope I do as well. I will certainly post a review, whenever I get to the book!
Angie @Angela's Anxious Life
There are so many books on your list here that I want to read too!! I just really need to read more. I have been playing way too many video games lately. There just isn’t enough time in the day.

No, there’s not. I’ve been spending more time on the computer than reading (email, facebook, blog, other people’s blogs, Tumblr, Pinterest…) I need to rein it in and spend more time with my books!
