Top Ten Tuesday: Unread Books on My Shelves I Want to Read Soon

Bookwyrm's Hoard graphic: Unread Books On My Shelves That I Want To Read SOON!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Unread Books on My Shelves I Want to Read Soon.

Unread Books on My Shelves I Want to Read Soon

…and how long they have been on my shelves. Of course, whether I actually WILL read them soon, who knows? Other books could supersede them, as has happened with some of my unread books from 2020 and earlier.

I have unread books going back 10 years and more. Just in print books alone, I have almost two full bookcases of unread books. But since my focus for this Top Ten Tuesday prompt was on books I want to read SOON, for this list I chose mostly books I have added to my physical shelves or virtual library in the last few years, with a few notable exceptions. Not that they are all new books! The Mabinogion goes back at least to the late Middle Ages in written form, and many of the stories in it are much older than that.

Print books:

Audiobooks:

  • The Cartographers, by Peng Shepherd (since Christmas 2022) – currently listening
  • Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett (full-cast production) (since yesterday!)
  • The Enchanted April, by Elizabeth von Arnem (since April 2, 2024)
  • The Chalice of the Gods (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, #6), by Rick Riordan (since Christmas 2023) Note: I want to re-listen to the original series first, though.
  • Chaos on CatNet (CatNet #2), by Naomi Kritzer (since July 2021) Note: I want to re-listen to book 1 first.
  • Making It So: A Memoir, by Patrick Stewart (since Christmas 2023)

We’ve got very similar tastes. I’m listening to Making It So right now, it’s so good. I could listen to Patrick Stewart all day, but I’m going slowly to draw it out. Bookshops & Bonedust, What the River Knows, Winter’s Orbit and Darker Shade of Magic were all really good. I hope you enjoy them!

Mr. Bookwyrm is listening to Make It So right now, so I have to wait until he’s done, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Chalice of the Gods! And I’m fine with low stakes… in fact, sometimes I prefer it.

I’m always complaining about the dearth of middle-aged heroines in fantasy, so I’m excited for The Adventures of Amina al-Sarafi. And I came to the Percy Jackson books as the parent of a fan, and loved them, so that will be fun, too.

I read Bookshops and Bonedust not long after it came out and really enjoyed it; I thought it was nice to go back into the world of Legends & Lattes before the events from the book. I hope you get to read it soon! Babel is another that I’m hoping to read at some point (mostly because The Poppy War doesn’t seem like something I want to read yet considering the topics) along with The Chalice of the Gods.
