The question for Sept. 27-Oct. 3 is “What weekly memes do you follow on a regular basis?”
Blog memes are a lot of fun, because you get to see what other bloggers are reading/looking forward to/thinking about, depending on the meme. They’re also great for meeting new bloggers and starting conversations. I enjoy them even when I don’t actively participate!
I participate in two weekly memes: Top Ten Tuesday, sponsored by the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish, and The Sunday Post, sponsored by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Top Ten Tuesday is exactly what it sounds like: Each Tuesday, you list your top ten picks in the category of the week. For instance, last week’s TTT was “Best Sequels Ever.” The Sunday Post is for recapping the past week (blogging and real life, if you wish), perhaps giving a heads-up on the week to come, and sharing books you’ve acquired, whether for review, free, or purchased. Here’s mine from last Sunday, to give you an example. (Not everyone’s Sunday Posts are as long as mine — but some are.)
I’m familiar with several other book blog memes: It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? (self-evident); Teaser Tuesday (where you post a sentence or excerpt from what you’re reading); Waiting on Wednesday (for books you’re looking forward to), Friday Favorites (spotlight a favorite book, author, series, blog, etc.); Stacking the Shelves and Showcase Sunday (for sharing books you’ve acquired). Some of them look like fun, and I enjoy reading other bloggers’ posts when I come across them, but the plain fact is, I have all I can do to keep up with the two I participate in now! I also run a weekly Saturday feature (not a meme) on my blog called News & Notes, which takes a fair bit of time to put together each week. So I can’t see myself joining another meme on a regular basis.
Which brings up an interesting quandary, because here I am participating in the Book Blogger Hop this week! All I can say is, I like the questions, and the fact that it’s more about getting to know the blogger sets it apart from most of the other memes. I can see myself participating on an occasional basis. I do worry about overcommitting, so I’m not going to jump in every week. I’m also giving myself permission to drop Top Ten Tuesday on any week that the category just doesn’t resonate with me. After all, blogging is supposed to be fun, not a chore!
Incidentally, there’s a good list of book blog memes at Bookshelf Fantasies if you’re looking for memes to follow or participate in.

Very nice post…I agree about overcommitting and that the Book Blogger Hop definitely lets you get to know other bloggers better.
I hope you can stop back again.
Happy Hopping!!

Thanks Elizabeth! I hope to, too. The October ones aren’t great for me, though — I don’t tend to go for the scary books! 🙂

This sounds like a great way to meet fellow bloggers. Thanks for the shout-out, and I enjoy reading peeps teasers on Tuesdays. I do the Sunday Post and Waiting on Wednesday when my crazy schedule permits, which sadly won’t happen again until November..LOL

I like your thoughts here. I also try to join a whole bunch of memes, and then find myself not able to keep up with them. I like Top Ten Tuesday but most times I forget until that morning and then it takes a bit of thought to participate because you have to come up with several examples at least. I am trying out something last couple of weeks where I do my own version of a weekly wrap up and then link it to Sunday Post and It’s Monday memes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this fun topic.

This sounds like an intriguing meme. I agree though…it’s easy to get over committed. But maybe I will check it out and try it sometime!

Thanks for all of the great information about weekly memes, Im going to check them out!

This seems like an interesting one; I may jump in occasionally also. I agree that you don’t want to over commit. I have four that I do but only one, The Sunday Post, that I do consistently; the others I do as I have time and inspiration. Even when I don’t post, I still go around and visit, as time permits. The memes are a fun way to find new blogs and meet other bloggers.

Teaser Tuesday is one of my favorite memes. I started participating in Stacking the Shelves, primarily because In My Mailbox was no longer hosted by The Story Siren. But as of last Sunday IMM has returned, so I’m really happy.
Thanks for stopping by Kero’s Book Blog.

I should join Top Ten Tuesday some time–I always enjoy reading other bloggers’ posts! Thanks for mentioning lots of other memes. I may need to check a few more out…But like you say about the Blog Hop–I’d only jump in when the topic resonates. I don’t think I’d wind up with very good posts otherwise… 🙂
