In the Dragon’s Eye is where I share the books I’ve got my acquisitive eye on: the ones I’m really excited about and hope to read and perhaps add to the hoard.  I also link to “Waiting On” Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the SpineCover links take you to Goodreads; all blurbs are also from Goodreads.

The Murder of Mary Russell (Laurie R. King)

Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes #14
Hardcover: Bantam, April 5, 2016

Has Laurie King followed in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s footsteps and killed off her protagonist? Sherlock Holmes is back in the latest in the New York Times bestselling series that Lee Child has hailed as “the most sustained feat of imagination in mystery fiction today”—but is Mary Russell?

When the novel opens, the shabby carpet of 221B Baker Street is drenched in blood—and no one knows the fate of Mary Russell. Could this be the final performance for the world’s best-known Holmesian author?

Why I want to read it:

1. I adore this series for a number of reasons: intelligent writing, wit, a Holmes who fits the canon but has been humanized well beyond it, a heroine whose fierce intellect is matched by her courage and skills, and amazing, absorbing plots.
2. The plot. Given internal clues in the series (particularly in the forward to the first book), I don’t think King is actually going to kill off Russell. . . but I can’t be sure. Either way, it’s going to be an exciting ride!

I’m really excited about this one though the only downside is that I don’t feel like I can jump ahead to this one and skip the books I haven’t gotten to yet. And then really I probably should reread the earlier books because it’s been forever. But I really want to read this one!
