October Readathons

I’m signing up for two October readathons, in hopes they get me to read some of the books and ARCs I have.

Witchtober

Witchtober is hosted by Your Book Friend, and runs from the last week of September through Halloween (Sept. 25–Oct. 31.) The idea is to read “witchy” books. They can be any genre. I hope to read some of the following (an asterisk indicates a review copy):

  • Rough Around the Hedges (Lish McBride)
  • The October Witches (Jennifer Claessen)
  • The Witch Is Back (Sophie H. Morgan) *
  • What the Hex (Jessica Clare) *
  • Witcha Gonna Do (Avery Flynn) *
  • Hex Appeal (Kate Johnson)
  • Small Town, Big Magic (Hazel Beck)
  • The Chronicles of the One: Year One, Of Blood and Bone, and The Rise of Magicks (Nora Roberts)

Or I might reread:

  • the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness
  • the Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy by Nora Roberts
  • the Three Sisters Island trilogy by Nora Roberts

Fraterfest

Fraterfest is hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reader, and runs from Thursday, Oct. 12 through Monday, Oct. 16. The idea is to read “spooky, paranormal, mysteries, thrillers and bump in the night” books. You pick your own fear level, so you can even read cozy mysteries if they give you chills or raise the hair on the back of your neck. I am not a big fan of scary books, but since I can choose a level of scary or suspenseful that works for me, here are a few books I might read during Fraterfest. (An asterisk indicates a review copy.)

  • The Blackbird Trilogy: Whispers at Dusk, Secrets in the Dark, and Cursed at Dawn* (Heather Graham)
  • I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died (Amanda Flower) *
  • The Curse of Penryth Hall (Jess Armstrong) *
  • The Chronicles of the One: Year One, Of Blood and Bone, and The Rise of Magicks (Nora Roberts)

Wish me luck!

I don’t expect to get through all of them! Those are just the lists I’ll be choosing from for each challenge. (Always assuming I’m in the right frame of mind, because I’m such a mood reader.) I figure I’ll be doing well if I read one Fraterfest book and three or four Witchtober books, but we’ll see.

I’ve never done Fraterfest before; I thought it was for really scary books, and I’m too prone to nightmares for that. But now that I know you can go with what you find spooky and shivery enough (without being too much), I’m excited for it.

Thanks! I already found one for Witchtober (which started on Sept. 25.) Rough Around the Hedges is a witchy book, and while I don’t love it as quite much as I did A Little Too Familiar, I am really enjoying it.

    Hallo, Hallo Lark,

Thanks for this! I left a comment on #Witchtober’s host blog post and I just wanted to thank you again for mentioning it. Can’t wait to start joining the fun and discussing the #WitchyReads I have loved in the past and the ones I want to be reading next!! Eek. Made my DAY!
