Very Belated Sunday Post – 6/10/2025

June 10, 2025 Sunday Post 0

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: Robin and I left for Texas last Thursday. Mr. Bookwyrm flew in Friday. Our nephew’s wedding was Saturday, in Texas’s Hill Country. It was an outdoor ceremony, very lovely and a perfect expression of their personalities. The whole weekend-long event was warm, welcoming and lots of fun. We all had a wonderful time (except for the heat, OMG.) On Sundday most of the extended family, including the bridal couple, checked out of the wedding venue and into a nearby ranch rental for a few days of family vacation/reunion. Our pregnant niece and her husband and child headed straight home (Texas not being a safe place to be pregnant these days.) My husband’s brother and his wife had a prior commitment, so they left Monday, but there are still 11 of us here through Wednesday; we will head our separate ways on Thursday.

5 Good Things:

  1. My last 4 days in New Mexico were cloudy and in the 60s all day, with intermittent rain. This is rare in New Mexico in June, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
  2. It has been wonderful celebrating a joyful occasion with my husband’s side of the family and now spending half a week hanging out together. It’s the first wedding and only the second gathering of that side since 2020; before that, we were gathering at least once a year for a week at a time.
  3. Since we arrived in Texas, I have seen an Eastern phoebe (a bird) and a baby faun. My sister-in-law saw a pair of summer tanagers, so I hope to get a glimpse of those as well.
  4. We visited our new niece-in-law’s favorite yarn store, and I found some gorgeous, soft, deep rose-colored merino yarn.
  5. So far (knock wood!) all of us are healthy, which is a big improvement over last summer’s get-together. May we all stay that way!

Looking Ahead

  • Sunday Post – 6/15/2025

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Grown Wise by Celia Lake. Then I finished off Love’s a Witch by Tricia O’Malley (ARC) before continuing my Albion reread with The Hare and the Oak, Ancient Trust (a prequel novella for some of the books I reread over the last few weeks), and Best Foot Forward. I’m currently in the middle of Nocturnal Quarry, a novella.

Next week, I’ll probably get back to reading Dangerous Books for Girls: The Bad Reputation of Romance Novels Explained (Maya Rodale) and/or some of the other books I have paused or set aside recently.

Listening to: I haven’t been listening to anything; I have been too busy. But I’m looking forward to getting back to One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews, for the Edge/Innkeeper Read-Along.

Watching: Nothing; I was too busy working in the early part of last week, and too busy visiting with family since Thursday.

Playing: Pokemon Go with Robin and my nieces and nephews. On my own, I have played my usual NYT games, and some Wingspan.

(Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Print: The Spellshop (used HC copy in excellent condition; Robin gave it to me.)

Kindle: The Spellshop; The Mirror

Coincidentally, The Spellshop went on sale for Kindle within a day or two of Robin giving me the hardcover. I always like to have both print and Kindle for books I really love!

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!
