The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
Last Week
In real life: Mr. Bookwyrm had President’s Day off. We slept in and did a jigsaw puzzle in the afternoon. On Tuesday we celebrated Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday with blueberry pancakes from scratch, and sausages. During the rest of the week, I did a little much-needed mending and took care of other household tasks. We did our taxes this weekend. The weather was crazy, with some unseasonably warm but beautiful days followed by a sharp drop in temperature and a mix of sleet and rain on Friday.
Writing accountability: My writing goal for February was 10,000 words, or about 360 words per day. Word count so far this month: 2856. As of yesterday, I am 5784 words behind schedule, which is more than I can reasonably catch up (I think.) On the one hand, I wish I had been better about writing every day, but on the other hand, the fact that I’m writing at all is such a huge improvement over all the years I didn’t give myself permission to try, that I still feel encouraged. I will continue trying to make it a more regular habit in March.
Counting the words I had before February, I now have the first draft of a fanfic short story nearly finished (close to 8,000 words at present.) I didn’t write any novel words this week, but I spent some time researching events and beginning to build a timeline for the historical-fantasy novel I started during NaNoWriMo last November. The timeline requires learning to use Aeon Timeline. It’s very powerful, and I’ve barely scratched the surface of what it can do. I also ordered some books about one of the time periods in which the book is set.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis. I reread Eclipse by Celia Lake (for about the fourth time), and followed it up with Tea & Meetings (a related short story collection, without a cover), Magician’s Hoard, and Wards of the Roses by the same author, and I’m currently rereading her novel Pastiche; all of those are rereads as well. I’m currently rereading Partners In Crime by Agatha Christie, and I started Unraveling by Peggy Orenstein.
Listening to: I finished the novel part of The Return of the King and I’m now listening to the appendices at the back. I’m also listening to Season 4 of the Writing Excuses podcast, and occasional other podcasts, notably Smart Podcast, Trashy Books.
Playing: Wordle, the NYT Spelling Bee, Sudoku, Carcassone (app), Pokemon Go. I play them occasionally, not every day (and sometimes not at all in the week.)
Watching: Mr. Bookwyrm and I are watching Season 3 of All Creatures Great and Small, and we started Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard. We’re also watching Season 1 of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I need to get back to Season 1 of A Discovery of Witches.

Congrats on your writing and doing jigsaw puzzles. I’m working on a puzzling one right now, in bits and pieces. I like it though.

It takes time to build a habit and routine and hopefully then you will be able to spend some time writing every day.
