Last Week
In real life: The weather has been quite lovely this week – cool but not cold, and most days have been partly sunny. The lake is filling in slowly, spring flowers are blooming, and the trees are beginning to leaf out. We were able to get out for a walk on several evenings.
In the middle of the week, my stepdad had a fall. He’s in the hospital, and will require some surgery. (I’m not being more specific to protect his privacy.) He should be all right in the long run, but they may need help with transportation and such, so I spend the last few days clearing the decks in case I am needed. I may go anyway at some point, but for now Mom and my sister have things in hand.
Writing accountability: March didn’t go well at all, but it’s a new month and a new goal. My writing goal for April is 7,500 words, or about 250 words of fiction per day. (The lower daily count is because I have a tough index project beginning soon.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson, one of my #23in2023 books. I read Nocturnal Quarry by Celia Lake, and reread Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts, which I reviewed in 2016. I am still reading Unraveling by Peggy Orenstein, which I’m enjoying very much. I also started The Matrimonial Advertisement by Mimi Matthews, and began rereading The Next Always by Nora Roberts.
Listening to: I listened to all of Airs Above the Ground (book by Mary Stewart; read by Antonia Whillans.) And I’m still listening to Season 4 of the Writing Excuses podcast.
Playing (occasionally): Wordle, the NYT Spelling Bee, Sudoku, Carcassone (app), and Pokemon Go.
Watching: The Brokenwood Mysteries (Season 2), Star Trek: Picard (Season 3), and Nature (assorted episodes from seasons 38 and 37; we’re working our way backward.) I also rewatched The Moving Finger (1985) and The Body in the Library (1984); both are Miss Marple mysteries starring Joan Hickson. For some reason, those are among my top comfort movies/shows, and I needed a bit of comfort this week.

I’m so glad to hear your stepfather is doing okay after his fall. I hope his recovery goes as smoothly as possible. I should reread Whiskey Beach. I remember enjoying it but that about sums it up! I hope you are having a good week!
