The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
Last Week
In real life: Mostly work. So. Much. Work.
(And so far, very little time for writing, darn it! Or spinning or knitting, or much of anything else fun.)
We didn’t do anything special for Halloween, because I’m working around the clock. I decorated the porch (in 5-minute increments), and Mr. Bookwyrm carved a pumpkin. We made up treat bags ahead of time, and judging by how many (or rather, few) we had left, we must have had around 50 trick-or-treaters, which is a good turnout for us. I did put on a black outfit and my witchy hat… and a pair of Halloween socks.
The blog: I didn’t have time to do my monthly reading/challenge wrap-up for October. I’ll try to get to it once I turn this project in, but that will be in mid-November.
Writing accountability: I signed up for NaNoWriMo before I accepted the current indexing project. [Sigh.] My writing goal for now is just to write a little bit daily, because until I finish the index, I can’t possibly manage the 1667 words-per-day needed to “win” NaNoWriMo.
Here’s my progress so far: Day 1 and 2: 1582 words, which finishes the first draft of the fanfic short story I’ve been working on (and off—mostly off) for several years. Day 3: 1139 words, brainstorming in an attempt to solve a plot problem I just spotted in my novel. (It counts as words. Everything counts.) Alas, I don’t think I have solved the plot problem yet. Day 4: I’m scheduling this post on Saturday, before I write this evening, so I don’t have a count yet. I may come back and update the post on Sunday, or just report on it next week.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I reread Jayne Ann Krentz’s Fogg Lake series: The Vanishing (reviewed in 2020), All the Colors of Night, and Lightning in a Mirror. (Technically, The Vanishing should have been on the last Sunday Post, but I finished it late on Saturday the 28th, after I had already scheduled the post.) After that, I started rereading the Arcane Society novels. So far, I have read Second Sight, White Lies; Sizzle and Burn; The Third Circle; and started Running Hot. They are all quick reads, and go even faster because I’ve read them before. (And if you are wondering where I find the time given my current schedule, it’s mostly in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep, and little bits of time while I’m waiting for the water to boil for my tea, or something… hence the need to read something I know really well and don’t mind putting down.)
Listening to: I listened to a few episodes of Season 7 of the Writing Excuses podcast, as well as their first NaNoWriMo episode for this year (Season 18.)
Watching: Not much, other than Stephen Colbert’s monologue each night. Unfortunately, given my workload, I haven’t had time to continue with Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches.

That’s so frustrating when a work project messes up other plans. I so prefer to know my work obligations far enough in advance so that I can work around them. Still, it sounds like you have a good modified goal for NaNo. Best of luck with it all!

Oh I love the pumpkin! And you’re one of the good houses! Goodie bags were always the best to get while trick or treating. I hope work is being a little kinder to you and you’re getting to mix in a bit of fun this week.

I’m stealing a few minutes to reply to comments, but I’m still deep in the indexing woods. (I was going to say weeds, but it’s a really interesting book, just a lot to cover.)
