The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: I attended several Zoom meetings: a board meeting, and two separate social hours with different groups of colleagues. I contacted several construction/remodeling firms to set appointments for them to look at what we want done and give us an estimate. I went into town and picked up my library holds. We filed our taxes. And between my indexing business and the two organizations I’m involved with, I spent a fair bit of time on email.
I sorted some clothes and bagged up what doesn’t fit (and isn’t likely to) to donate to the thrift store. I still have a lot more to go through. I also let go of a few other items we won’t be needing. I have a long way to go with the decluttering/downsizing, but it’s a start.
In my creative life, I washed and skeined up some yarn I spun last fall and plied earlier this month. And I started a new spinning project.
Writing accountability: My writing goal is 250 words every day (fiction or other creative writing; book reviews don’t count.) In the past week: I wrote 0 days this week. Word count for the week: 0 words (out of 1750.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I reread Nora Roberts’s Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy: The Awakening, The Becoming, and The Choice. Then I reread the first two books of her Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy and started on the third: Dark Witch, Shadow Spell, and Blood Magick (which I’m still reading. The title links for the Cousins O’Dwyer books go to my reviews.)
Listening to: The Writing Excuses podcast (season 9), and Roma Agrawal’s Nuts & Bolts: Seven Small Inventions That Changed The World (in a Big Way).
Playing: Same as usual: the NYT word games (Wordle, Connections, and the Spelling Bee); and Pokémon Go.
Watching: Brokenwood Season 7 and The Agatha Christie Hour, both on Acorn.

Library Haul

Library: Miss Flibbertigibbet and the Barbarian; Miss Prim and the Duke of Wylde. These are absolutely terrible titles; I’m really rather embarrassed for the author. I took Stephanie Laurens off my autobuy list last year because for a while now, she seems to just be going through the motions. So I borrowed these two from the library—although I don’t have much hope that they will be any better than any of her recent books have been.
Purchased or Free (Kindle, print, or audio)
Print: My preordered SIGNED copy of The Lantern’s Dance arrived from The Poisoned Pen bookstore! And they even gave it a mylar protector to keep the dust jacket nice. Now that’s service!

Kindle (mostly on sale): Witches Get Stuff Done; A Shilling for Candles; The Singing Sands; Greenwitch; The Grey King; Knight’s Castle; A Perilous Perspective (reviewed); How to Fake It With a Fae. (The Tey mysteries and the three children’s books are duplicates of books I own in paperback or hardcover, and will be able to let go of—either now or whenever we downsize.)

Well you are getting a lot done and that decluttering and downsizing takes effort but the results are worthwhile. Contractors can be time consuming. I do as much as I can myself. Too bad I didn’t learn electrical from my dad because he was amazing with it. I have a good guy for that in the neighborhood though.

(written on 3/14/2024) Alas, the decluttering is mostly on hold for the time being, as it’s little difficult to do with only one hand.

Decluttering is so refreshing and feels so good! … but man does it take a lot of effort to actually do it. Kudos on making good progress on that!

It sure does — and the emotional effort is probably harder than the physical effort.

Thank you for donating to a thrift store. My family was low income when I was a kid, so almost all of my clothing came from those stores until I was an adult. It’s a wonderful thing to keep clothes out of the landfill and give someone else a chance to have something nice to wear…not to mention all of the books, dishes, toys, and other household items you can get there, too! What a treasure trove thrift stores are.

I agree wholeheartedly; I am a lifelong supporter of thrift stores! As you point out, they are beneficial from both the economic and environmental points of view. I wore a mix of hand-me-downs, thrift store clothing, and new clothing as a child, and most of my clothes were handed down to my cousins. It’s just the way we did things. And I did a lot of my shopping for baby and toddler clothes at the thrift store, because children grow out of them so fast at that age. I still enjoy shopping at thrift stores; you never know what treasures you might find. And by treasures, I don’t mean monetarily valuable items so much as delightful and/or useful ones, from teacups to jigsaw puzzles to cashmere sweaters.

I need to get some decluttering done. I have drawers that won’t shut and I know at least a third of the clothes aren’t clothes I want to keep. I love the Cousin O’Dwyer series. That’s one I’d like to reread. I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.

The Cousin O’Dwyer series has been a favorite of mine since they came out. I reread them every year or two.
My decluttering is kind of on hold for the time being but I hope to get back to it soon.
