The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books! This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! What are you doing to celebrate? We don’t have any plans this year. I would have cooked a traditional Irish or Irish-American dish (corned beef and cabbage, probably), but it’s too hard to cook one-handed, so… (shrugs) I did wear green today, though, and a shamrock pin. And I’m pretty sure we’ll sing “St. Patrick’s Breastplate” in church (aka “I Bind Unto Myself Today.”) (ETA: To my surprise and disappointment, we didn’t.)
In real life: I saw the orthopedic doctor on Monday. They x-rayed the wrist again. He says the X-rays look good, so it could be a microfracture, a bone bruise, or a partially torn ligament. They gave me a brace to wear for another three weeks or so, until I return for a follow-up. Hopefully it will be healed up by then. Meanwhile, the brace is at least removable, which makes showering so much easier! And since nothing is broken, I can take off the brace periodically, while I’m reading or watching TV, to let my skin get some air and apply moisturizer; ten days in the splint left my it really dry and flaking.
Mr. Bookwyrm and I went for a nice walk on Monday evening. We had a bit of minor excitement midweek when an episode of arrhythmia sent me to the ER for a few hours, but I’m fine. (I’ve had this occasionally for decades; I take medication to prevent it; once in a while I have a breakthrough episode. It’s not particularly dangerous if dealt with promptly.)
I put together a couple of Top Ten Tuesday posts, one for next week and one for May. Otherwise, it wasn’t a particularly notable or productive week. Writing and decluttering are proving difficult with one hand.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I continued rereading Laurie R. King’s historical mystery series about Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes, finishing Locked Rooms (reviewed previously) and going on to XX. Then I got sidetracked by a series of Harry Potter AU fanfics that Robin and their best friend Owl recommended to me (the “Stealing Harryverse” AU by copperbadge on AO3; be forewarned there is adult content.) Several of the fics in the series are book-length (between 70K and 105K words), so it was the equivalent of reading several books— and the book-length fics are even on Goodreads! After reading those for a few days, I went back to The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst (ARC), which is charming so far. Except then on a whim, I interrupted it to read Legacy by Nora Roberts, which I somehow missed reading when it came out a few years ago; it was good. Now I am happily alternating between The Spellshop and The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff.
Listening to: The Writing Excuses podcast (season 9), and I have barely started The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd.
Playing: Not a lot I managed to do a few of the NYT word games (Wordle, Connections, and the Spelling Bee) and even a little Pokémon Go.
Watching: Brokenwood Season 7, All Creatures Great And Small Season 4, and The Moving Finger, one of the Miss Marple miniseries starring Joan Hickson.

I’ve read 84 Charing Cross Road multiple times and always love it. High time I read The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street!
Lark_Bookwyrm
I just finished it this afternoon. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I loved 84 Charing Cross Road.

Wow, I hope your wrist heals quickly and happy the trip to the ER was something you knew how to handle or it would have been really scary. I hope you have a better week.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

It must be awful to only have the use of one hand. At least the good news is that nothing is broken.
I’ve enjoyed everything I have read written by Helene Hanff. Her stories are perfect for us bookish folk.

It’s annoying and sometimes frustrating, but honestly, after watching what several loved ones went through with more serious injuries, I am counting my blessings that it wasn’t worse! And Mr. Bookwyrm has been great about helping with everything I can’t do.

Progress is good, at least!
Lark_Bookwyrm
Yes indeed!

On an unrelated note, how did you get into indexing? I’m currently looking into a career change and wonder if indexing would be a good direction to move in.
Lark_Bookwyrm
Someone in my family was already an indexer, and she got me into it when my place of employment closed. You are in the UK, if I recall correctly? Check out the Society of Indexers’ website; they have information, resources, and an excellent training program. And feel free to email me if you have specific questions.

Good luck with speedy healing!

Thank you!

I hope your wrist is doing better.
The Glass Library books look good. I’ll have to check them out.
I hope you have a great week!

It’s definitely improving! Have a great week, and thanks for stopping by.

That sounds like good news about the hand! I hope it heals up fully very quickly. We had Drunken Irish Stew (lamb meat, plus Guinness for the broth liquid) and soda bread for yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day dinner. And plenty for leftovers tonight! Yum.

I hope it heals quickly too! One of the biggest frustrations is not being able to spin or knit. Also, not being able to write by hand.
Your dinner sounds delicious!
Katherine
So glad there isn’t a break and you’re able to use a removable brace. Still frustrating to still be one handed but definitely more comfortable! We didn’t do our traditional meal for St Patrick’s day either. It just wasn’t to be. I hope you’ve had a wonderful week and are taking time to rest and take care of yourself. No more ER visits!

I hope your wrist recovers quickly and that the x-ray looked good at least. That removable brace sounds a bit nicer so you can give it some fresh air at times. Sounds pretty frustrating to only have the use of one hand. That ER scare sounds scary, but glad to hear it’s not severe if dealt with promptly. Have a good week!
