July 14, 2024 Sunday Post 4

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: We came out to the car on Sunday morning to find that overnight, the rearview mirror on Mr. Bookwyrm’s car had fallen off, taking a chunk of the windshield glass with it. Luckily, our insurance covered the repair, and the glass place came out midweek to fix it. I spent the rest of the week alternating between packing up books, basic housework, going to a few medical appointments, getting my hair cut, and packing for a family reunion this coming week. Yesterday was the monthly meeting of my fiber guild.

Mr. Bookwyrm and I are on vacation beginning today. As soon as we get back next weekend, we plunge into the final week of packing up ALL THE STUFF before the flooring people come at the end of July. So I might not be around much (or at all) for the next several weeks. I’ll try to get at least a Sunday Post done during that time, if I have time, but don’t worry about me if I miss a week.

Decluttering and remodeling: We a couple of big-ticket toys on Facebook, after they sat there for well over a month. And as I said above, we are making progress on packing up books and pictures and moving them down to the basement. I plan to prune my books a bit more when I move them upstairs again. I’m out of time to do anything about them now, but I already have several boxes of books to sell or give away.

Writing accountability: My minimum goal is an achievable 250 words every day (fiction or other creative writing; book reviews for the blog don’t count.) I wrote 4 days this week.* Word counts for the week: 2,092 words of fiction* (my goal was 1,750 total for the week.) I am using 4theWords to gamify my writing sprints, and I signed up for the July Camp NaNoWriMo with a month-long goal of 7500 words.

* Numbers as of Saturday morning, and subject to revision. My writing week, like my blog week, runs from Sunday through Saturday; I schedule the Sunday post on Saturday, usually before my evening writing session, so Saturday’s stats don’t always make it into the post until sometime after it has been published.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading and Listening: I reread Owlflight and Owlsight (Mercedes Lackey.) I’m currently rereading The Spellshop (Sarah Beth Durst; ARC) to refresh my memory so I can write the review.

Listening to: I started listening to Ivory Vikings: The Mystery of the Most Famous Chessmen in the World and the Woman Who Made Them, by Nancy Marie Brown, read by Tony Ward. And I listened to podcast episodes from 99% Invisible, Smart Podcast Trashy Books, Science Friday, and Imaginary Worlds.

Watching: We finished Season 10 of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I continued watching a series about Britain’s great castles. I’ve been to several of the castles they talk about so far: The Tower of London, Warwick, Cardiff, Caernarvon, and Edinburgh (though I was fairly young, and very cold, wet, and tired, so I barely remember that one at all. I was a teen or adult when I visited the others, so my memories are much clearer.)

Playing: Some of the NYT word games, mostly Wordle, Connections, Strands, and my favorite, the Spelling Bee. I also played Pokémon Go occasionally.

I had that happen a few cars ago with a rearview mirror. It wasn’t that difficult of a fix but it took me way too long to figure out what had happened! I hope you’re having a great week!
