August 18, 2024 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: Thanks to my husband’s ingenuity (it turns out you can slide heavy furniture along a hard floor by putting it on a moving blanket!), he was able to move most of our furniture back into place without help, so at least the rooms are starting to look less unfinished. So far, we haven’t unpacked much of the stuff that’s down in the basement, though. It’s going slowly for three reasons: First, I was wiped out by whatever illness hit me a week ago, so I rested most of the week. Second, we need to get felt pads or sliders (coasters) under all the furniture. And third, I want to use the unpacking-and-putting-away stage as a chance to prune my belongings a bit further. I’m not a minimalist, and will probably never be, but I could really make do with less stuff than I have.

Speaking of feeling under the weather, I tested negative for Covid three times: Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We aren’t completely ruling it out, but it seems likely it was some other virus. By Thursday, I could tell I was mostly over it, though my energy levels still aren’t fully recovered.

Given that, we went up to IKEA Friday evening (about an hour and a quarter away.) We came back without the bookshelves we went up there for, but with a drawer unit for my study/office. My old desk had built-in drawers on both pedestals. My new sit-stand desk, which arrived last weekend (and which we still need to put together), has no drawers at all, so I need something with enough drawer space for all the stuff I used to keep in the desk drawers. Hopefully we can start putting my study back together this weekend, though I still need a chair mat and a few other things. The bookshelves we didn’t buy were for the living room, but I didn’t like the available colors when I saw them in person.

Writing accountability: I didn’t write at all in the past week, but hope to finally get back to it this week.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching (since 7/14/2024)

Reading and listening: I finished rereading Four Walls and a Heart by Celia Lake. I started An Inquiry into Love and Death by Simone St. James, but I was too wiped out to concentrate on it, so I reread Lake’s Pastiche (reviewed 8/15) and The Fossil Door instead.

Listening to: Nothing, really.

Watching: Just a few Stephen Colbert monologues from this week.

Playing: A little Pokemon Go (from inside my house), and my usual NYT word games: Wordle, Connections, Strands, and the Spelling Bee.

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Zebra for Golden Lord!

Purchased or Free (Kindle, print, or audio)

Can you believe it? I didn’t buy a single book all week! Well, that’s not strictly true. I bought several digital books as gifts for family members with birthdays coming up. And I ordered two used hardcovers, but I don’t count them until they show up on my doorstep.

Stay kind and hopeful… and may your books bring you joy this week!

I’m glad it’s not Covid- i had it once over the winter and it was so bad. I was really sick a few weeks ago with another cold that really did a number on me for the first few days so I hope that you feel better soon!

I like the idea of using moving blankets to move furniture. I’m so glad you’re getting things back in order. I’m not a mimialist either but it is nice to prune the hoards of belongings sometimes. I hope you’re feeling better. I’m glad it’s not covid but there are a few other not so fun things going around. I hope you’re having a great week!
