Belated Sunday Post – 2/23/2026

February 22, 2026 Sunday Post 4

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: It was a rough week as I started the process of sorting out the tangle of Dad’s finances and began to take on managing them for him. My anxiety kept climbing all week, and I feel very overwhelmed. While I’ve been here, I have also been also cook, housekeeper, driver, and grocery shopper. There’s very little time left for reading or relaxing, and I don’t know how long I will have to stay in order to get enough sorted out that they’ll be okay for another few months. As a result, I haven’t finished a single book since I got here, or written any reviews.

By Saturday, I was so overwhelmed that I asked Mr. Bookwyrm to come out. He caught a flight the next morning and arrived Sunday morning (yesterday.) I’m deeply thankful to have him here, for both logistical and emotional support.

5 Good Things:

  1. I have had some good conversations with my stepmom and some good moments with my dad.
  2. I have been able to get at least a few of the issues straightened out so far.
  3. Mr. Bookwyrm was been really supportive on the phone during the week, and when I said I needed him, he came right away. That kind of love and support means the world.
  4. I have been able to see some of the Olympics.
  5. Dad’s birthday is coming up.

Looking Ahead

  • Sunday Post – 3/01/2026 (if I can find the time)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I’m still in the middle of Witches of Dubious Origin (Jenn McKinlay.) I’m enjoying it, but midweek, I decided I needed something familiar to deal with the stress (especially right before bedtime), so I reread Grown Wise by Celia Lake. I’m currently rereading Pastiche by the same author (which I reviewed in 2024.) I find her Albion novels very soothing, for the most part.

Listening to: Nothing. The TV has been on almost all the time here, much too loud to listen to anything else. I bought myself a set of Loops earplugs (the noise reducing kind) to save both my hearing and my sanity.

Watching: the Olympics, 60 Minutes, and a few episodes of Antiques Roadshow.

Playing: I haven’t had much time for games, but I have managed a few games of Wingspan (phone app), and at least one or two of my dailies each day: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.)

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…

I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published these reviews 10 years ago between Feb. 16 and Feb 22, 2016.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!

Thank you, Anne. I’m so grateful that my husband was able to come out. I’m writing this a week later, and his presence has really made a difference in my anxiety and overwhelm levels — not to mention the logistical support.

  1. Katherine

I don’t envy you the job of sorting through your dad’s finances. I remember sorting through my grandfather’s and while thankfully we weren’t working with any dementia he had a very specific and overly complicated system that we had to sort out. There is nothing like a reread for comfort reading – and for resting the over tired brain. I’m so glad Mr. Bookwyrm was able to be with you and help. Having that support is crucial. I hope this week is much more peaceful.
