Sunday Post – 5/25/14

May 25, 2014 Sunday Post, week in review 26

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Robin is home, which is lovely! We’ve picked back up with the book we were reading aloud over spring break, and she’s been writing up a storm. She has also started a Tumblr, called Of Meadowflowers and Butterflies, where she’ll post some book reviews and other things she’s interested in. You’re all welcome to stop by!  [ETA: If you don’t have a Tumblr account, you can follow on Bloglovin: Of Meadowflowers and Butterflies. Just bear in mind, Tumblr lets you reblog other people’s stuff, so not all posts are original to her.)

OK, please bear with me while I fangirl a bit!  On Saturday, I went to a nearby town where Sherryl Woods was selling and signing books as a fundraiser for the library. (She has a home there, and has set a few of her books in a thinly-disguised version of the town — which is fun for us local fans!) It’s the first time I’ve met her. She’s a lovely, warm, kind person, very easy to talk with. I’m definitely a fan; after I discovered her Chesapeake Shores series, I plowed through every other book I could get my hands on — although since she’s written more than 100 books, I’m not even close to having read them all. Anyway, I picked up six books for me, plus two to give away on the blog, all signed! Keep an eye out; I’ll be reviewing her newest Sweet Magnolias book later this summer, and there will be a giveaway of 2 of her older books.

After meeting Sherryl, I headed to my own county library, where Mary Behre was speaking and signing her new book, a paranormal romantic suspense called Spirited. It looks and sounds wonderful! It’s the first in a series; the second, Guarded, comes out in August. Mary is delightful, and I can’t wait to read her books. I bought two signed copies of Spirited, one for me and one to give away, and Mary was kind enough to give me an ARC of Guarded.  Watch for my reviews later this summer!

I’ll be working hard again this week, so I may not be returning as many blog visits — I’m sorry in advance! I’ll try to catch up the following week when things slow down a little.

Mmm, those books by Mary Behre have very nice covers, very appealing ! Have a great reading week 😉

A Wrinkle In Time! YAY! I didn’t know there was a readalong. *ponders if she can squeeze it in*

That’s so exciting about meeting the two authors and getting the signed books. I love meeting authors. I can’t wait for the reviews and the giveaways.

Have fun with Robin, enjoy her being home. 🙂

It was a great day! And yes, oh please, do the AWiT readalong! It’s really more of a book club — one day of discussion rather than spreading the book over several weeks.

Great week! I’ve just discovered Sherryl Woods myself and am looking forward to reading more of her books. Looks like you had a great week! I bought the Susan Mallery too – those daily deals always get me! Happy reading!

Oh, you’re in for a treat if you’ve just discovered Woods! She’s consistently good, and she has an understanding of and compassion for her characters that just shines through every page.

And yes – those daily deals grab me way more often than they should. 😉

Yay you are reading Spirited and Guarded. I loved Spirited and have to start Guarded. I am following your daughter on Tumblr. She likes my favorite boys the Winchesters. We shall get along smashingly.

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

‘Robin’ is delighted! I told her you were following her and she said “Ooh!” in great excitement. And I hope to get to Spirited once the Clean Sweep challenge is over. 😉

Wonderful that you got to meet authors this week–what fun! I put Spirited on my wishlist. I’ve never read Sherryl Woods, but have heard great things about her series. Have a good week. (I visited your daughter’s site and it looks like fun, but I don’t have Tumblr so I can’t follow her).

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I signed up for Tumblr a few weeks ago to follow some other things, so I’m able to follow her on Tumblr. But you should be able to follow her via bloglovin. I added her blog. Just bear in mind that Tumblr is a little different; you can also “reblog” other posts you think are interesting (hopefully with your own comments appended.) So not everything you see on her blog will be her own writing, but it will reflect her interests.

Sounds like two terrific author appearances, awesome. Murder at Honeychurch Hall looks like an intriguing mystery, I’ll check your review of that. Enjoy your family time!

  7. Yvonne

Sherryl Woods has been a favorite of mine for years. I’m so far behind on her books though. Enjoy!

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I think I’ve read all the Sweet Magnolias, all the Chesapeake Shores, and the Charleston Trilogy, along with a smattering of others as I could get my hands on them — but I realize there’s a huge backlist that I’ll probably never get through. I’ve been trying to keep up with her new releases, but she’s a prolific writer! Just enjoy them when you can and don’t sweat over catching up.

Wow, that’s so great you got to some book signings! And so fun to have Robin home, I know. I’ve been having so much fun with my daughters…just wish we lived closer. I’ll have to check out tumblr when I get back home and catch my breath.

You got some great looking books. I’ll be interested in your reviews! Have a great week.

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I love hearing about your visits to your daughters, and theirs to you. It’s clear you’re a close family, emotionally if not physically, and that’s wonderful. Have a wonderful week, my friend!

  9. Berls

I bet it’s good to have Robin back 🙂 and what great fun with the author signing! So cool that you live in the town that she uses for her setting, that’s has to be a lot of fun for you when reading the series. I would fan girl too! Hope you’ve had a great week so far 🙂

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

It’s great having Robin home! And yes, fun to live near the town where Sherryl Woods set a few of her books. (She changed the name, but I could tell.) I’m actually in the next county (we have relatively small counties here) but my voice teacher is in her town, so I’m there once a week. And Mary Behre turns out to be a friend of a friend, which is cool too.
