The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’ve been away for the last several weeks. First Mr. Bookwyrm and I flew to New Mexico for Robin’s 25th birthday, and then he went home while I went on to visit my dad and stepmom in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was so wonderful to see everyone in both locations—my mom and stepdad and my sister’s family are all in the same town as Robin, and several of my cousins are still in SLC.

Unfortunately, it turned into a working vacation, as so many of my vacations do. But I was still able to enjoy being with my family (or rather, families.) We played lots of Pounce over at my sister’s house (think multiperson double solitaire on steroids — lightning fast and highly competitive), enjoyed a few walks, and had a warm, laughter-filled birthday party for Robin.

I’m still finishing up the current work project, but hope to be done by midweek so I can catch up on blogging a little bit.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I read Seduction on a Snowy Night (ARC; historical-romance anthology) and Rival’s Edge by Carla Neggers (also an ARC.) I’m currently reading  The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins.  And I probably should get back to Dragonfell (Sarah Prineas, ARC.)

Listening to:  Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.  Except that once again, I’ve been too busy to listen to it. I’m also listening to some quiet piano and classical music on Spotify, to help me focus while I work.

Watching: Not a thing.

      Yes, you need one deck of cards per person (with unique backs so you can sort them apart afterward.) We find it works best with betweeen 4 and 6 players. 8 is doable; anything over that and it’s best to break into two separate games. 3 people works, but you can get stuck more often. I think 2 people would be more like playing double solitaire: a bit less frenetic than the 3-or-more games, but still fun.

    Even if you had to work, it sounds like you managed to carve out plenty of fun time with your families. So yay! I’ve never heard of Pounce. I need to check that out.

    What a lovely family-centred holiday you’ve been enjoying! And I will definitely be Googling Pounce which sounds great fun. I hope this coming week you will be able to relax a bit (those sorts of holidays always seem very tiring, even if they are fun) and get some reading in:).

      The rules of Pounce vary, but there is a reasonably good explanation here. Our family plays it slightly differently, with 13 cards on the pounce pile (instead of 9), and each card left in your pounce pile counts as -1. And whoever places the king has to remove the pile, but play doesn’t stop!

      Indeed they are. I try to get out to visit my parents (all four) at least twice a year. My mom and stepdad are in their early-heading-to-mid-eighties. My dad and stepmom are 89 and 90. I know I won’t have them forever, so I’m treasuring them while I can.

      Pounce is great for 3 people or more. You can play it with 2, but it’s not as much fun. But you can practice your strategies with 2 players, and then invite some friends over and teach them, too!

    Sorry to hear that your vacation turned into a working vacation. Such is life, sigh. But, I’m glad you still enjoyed yourself and the trips!
