A Very Belated Sunday Post – 2/18/2024 (was 2/16)

February 18, 2025 Sunday Post 2

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: We had snow, sleet, and freezing rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, with about 6 inches of accumulation. So much for the new “no telework” rule at my husband’s job! He was home Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday. But by noon Thursday, the temperature had risen into the 50s and everything was melting pretty quickly.

Saturday I flew to Utah, where I am helping to organize and prepare for my dad’s big birthday party. I have literally been too busy to get online since I got here, and when I wasn’t too busy, I was too tired. I apologize for being so late with the Sunday Post! I probably should have scheduled it on Friday, before I left, but I thought I might have things to add on Saturday after I arrived.

5 Good Things (in order of occurrence):

  1. I always enjoy snow… especially when I can stay warm and dry indoors.
  2. I took care of several different pieces of frustrating but necessary paperwork. I don’t like doing it, but I like having it off my To-Do list!
  3. I had an uneventful flight out to Utah. After what happened in DC a few weeks ago, followed by the commuter plane accident in Scottsdale and the plane that flipped over in Toronto yesterday, I am deeply grateful for a safe flight.
  4. I thought I had lost my driver’s license after I got here, but I found it again.
  5. I get to spend nearly two weeks with my dad and stepmom. At their age (mid 90s), I treasure every moment I have with them.

Looking Ahead

  • reviews TBD, if time permits (unlikely, if I’m honest)
  • Sunday Post – 2/23/2025

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching (since 7/14/2024)

Reading: I finished Weaving Hope by Celia Lake, and The Mirror by Nora Roberts, both for the Libraries & Love readathon. On the plane on Saturday, I reread Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts (reviewed in 2016), then began rereading Identity on Sunday (reviewed in 2023). I’ll be honest, I don’t think going to have much mental energy for reading anything new to me in the coming week. Organizing a big party in a short time is taking all my time and energy, and I’m doing all the cooking and shopping for our meals and driving them to some of their appointments as well.

Listening to: Before I left on my trip, I was making my way through Season 13 of Writing Excuses. My second Libby hold for Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent (Dame Judi Dench) came in (yay!) I borrowed it in January but didn’t have time to finish it, so I’m now listening to the second half. I still want to finish The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd, but I’ll wait until I finish the Judi Dench book.

Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, season 2 and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 1 (both rewatches). For some reason I was really feeling the need of a comfort watch on Monday, so I watched the 1985 BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced; it’s part of the Miss Marple series starring Joan Hickson, and it’s a favorite. (Again, all of those were before I left for Utah.)

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan. And Pokemon Go, very occasionally.
