Belated Sunday Post – 5/19/2025

May 19, 2025 Sunday Post 0

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: We are in New Mexico. On Saturday we celebrated my mom and stepdad’s 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering. It was a beautiful celebration of my parents’ love and of their extended family by birth, marriage, and choice. On Sunday they had their rings blessed during church, and we had another, informal family gathering in the afternoon and evening. It has been wonderful to see the second cousin I knew when I was a child and he was a young man, and to meet other members of the family I had never met before.

Mr. Bookwyrm is heading home today; I’m staying here for a few weeks. Then Robin and I will meet Mr. Bookwyrm in Austin for our nephew’s (Robin’s cousin’s) wedding, followed by an extended-family vacation with Mr. Bookwyrm’s side of the family. Austin in the summer is pretty hot; I plan to spend most of my time indoors!

5 Good Things:

  1. Hearing the stories and tributes to my parents and the love they share was incredibly moving.
  2. It has been wonderful to see the second cousin I knew when I was a child and he was a young man, and getting to know his wife, his brothers, and one brother’s wife for the first time.
  3. We’re a musical family, so several people played their instruments on one or both of the evenings.
  4. I always enjoy singing in the choir when I’m visiting my parents’ and Robin’s church, and this Sunday’s anthem was particularly fun.
  5. We took a private tour of historical Los Alamos, led by a pair of volunteer docents at the historical museum. It was an excellent tour. We were even allowed inside the Oppenheimer house, which was recently acquired by the museum and is not yet open to the public.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: Between work, packing, and all the family festivities, I have had very little time for reading. I did reread Goblin Fruit (Celia Lake) and began rereading On the Bias, a later book in the series that is a direct sequel to Goblin Fruit. Normally, I would have read at least one book on the plane ride out here, but I was too tired; I dozed almost the entire flight.

Listening to: I finished The Left-handed Booksellers of London (Garth Nix), which I had read but not listened to before. Then I started the sequel, The Sinister Booksellers of Bath.

Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4.

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan (digital version)

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Kindle: The White Mountains; The City of Gold and Lead; The Pool of Fire; When the Tripods Came; Dangerous Books for Girls. I have waited years for the John Christopher ebooks to go on sale. Now I can finally pass my mass market paperbacks on to someone who will (hopefully) appreciate them.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!
