Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Series I’d Like To Start But Haven’t Yet (3/05/13)

March 5, 2013 Top Ten Tuesday, unfinished series 19

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week’s topic is
Top Ten Series I’d Like to Start But Haven’t Yet.

I’m actually not sure I can keep this to a mere 10 series, but I’ll try! In no particular order, I want to read:

The Queen’s Thief series, by Megan Turner Whalen.  I’ve dipped into the first book and the third, and I am really impressed and intrigued.  I just need to set aside the time.

The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik.  My daughter loves these, and I love the premise: alternate history set around the time of the Napoleonic Wars, with each side commanding a dragon air force.

The Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier.  I’ve had these on my shelves — in beautiful hardcovers, yet — for several years.  I read the first one almost 15 ago, so technically, they shouldn’t be on this list.  But I’ve forgotten so much of it that I would have to start at the beginning again.

The Fairyland series by Catherynn M. Valente.  These have been tempting me for a while.

The Graceling trilogy by Kristin Cashore.  Almost everyone seems to think these are really wonderful.  I need to find out what all the fuss is about.

The Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson.  I’ve heard really good things about these, too.

The Etiquette & Espionage series by Gail Carriger.  These just look like fun!

The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde.  I loved the humor in Fforde’s The Last Dragonslayer (reviewed here).  I’m really looking forward to seeing what he’s done with this series for adults.

The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan.  I have to admit, I’ve been trying to hold out until the series is completed.  Especially after hearing about book 3’s cliffhanger ending.  But I’m definitely looking forward to reading them!

The Lunaterre Chronicles by Melina Marchetta.  I’ve had Finnikin of the Rock sitting on my TBR shelves downstairs for over a year now.  One of these days, I’ll find time to read it.

The Wishcraft Mysteries by Heather Blake.  I really enjoyed her Lucy Valentine series (light paranormal mystery/romance written under the name Heather Webber), so I expect I’ll enjoy these, too.

I couldn’t quite keep it down to 10!  I could have added several more, but these are probably the top 11.  Which series do you think I should start first? And what series are on your want-to-read list?

Oooh Graceling and The Girl of Fire and Thorns are fantastic (although I still haven’t finished either series yet)!

I should’ve put the Lunaterre Chronicles on my list too because that is definitely high on my TBR shelf!

I’ve never heard of the Etiquette & Espionage series before and I loved Carriger’s Soulless! Yay for finding new books through bloggers 🙂

Agreed. I’ve been discovering some wonderful books through other bloggers, including Cinder and The False Prince. Thank you for the recommendations on Graceling and The Girl of Fire and Thorns!

Several of these are on my list, too! I really need to get to Graceling as I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I even bought the first book — just haven’t gotten to it yet.

Glad to have found you via TTT!

Great list. I probably should have included the Turner series but I didn’t think of it!

Thank you for stopping by, Ashley! I look forward to seeing what you think of both books. I just got Etiquette and Espionage from the library, but I’ve got a slew of other things (including some ARCs) to read first.

I love your blog title. 🙂

Okay, I should definitely read some Naomi Novik, and I’d love to get my hands on anything Juliet Marillier. The Fairyland set really ought to be on my list, too. Great picks!

That’s a good list of books. I’m not sure I’d be able to narrow it down to just 10! Those are all series that I want to start, except for the Riordan and the Fforde books, which I’ve already started…(but am behind on).

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Thank you, Rachel! I couldn’t narrow it down to ten, either — there are eleven up there, and I left another four or five off the list. I also left off several series I have started but am behind on, like Kristen Britain’s Green Rider series, John Flanagan’s Ranger’s Apprentice books, and Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid novels.

I didn’t skip, I promise! I haven’t read books one and three; I’ve only peeked at a few sample pages. You know, the way you do in a bookstore, to see if you’ll like the book. (OK, to be completely honest, the few pages I looked at in the first book turned into about 20, because it was so good. So why didn’t I read it then? As I recall, I had about 5 other books going at the time… and then it ended up far enough down the stack that I kept not getting to it. I’ll read them, I’ll read them — soon!) *grin*

Many of the series you’ve listed are on my tbr list especially The Queen’s Thief series. Great list.
