The HoHoHo RAT is underway! I hope you’re enjoying all the holiday books you’ve picked out for the read-a-thon. And if you haven’t signed up yet, what are you waiting for?
Since I like looking at holiday-themed book covers almost as much as I like reading them, I decided to challenge the HoHoHoRAT participants to a puzzle-solving contest. Specifically, jigsaw puzzles! Don’t worry, I didn’t make them very hard. Puzzles #1 through #9 are the covers of holiday books published in 2016. There are several genres and at least three holidays represented. Puzzle #10 is a classic Christmas book.
To play, just rearrange the pieces of each puzzle by clicking and dragging. Once you’ve solved the puzzle, answer a question about the cover in the widget at the bottom of this post.
The prize: Your choice of book from Book Depository, up to $10 US.
Rules and Restrictions (Sorry; you know there have to be a few.)
- You have to be signed up for the HoHoHoRAT. (You can sign up even if you don’t have a blog.)
- You have to be at least 18 years old.
- You have to live somewhere that Book Depository will ship to, or I can’t send you your prize. (Here’s the list of countries they ship to.)
- The winner will be randomly selected from all the correct answers. The more questions you answer correctly, the more chances you have to win.
Good luck!

Click each link to play the puzzle. Then answer the related question in the Giveaway widget below.
The last puzzle is a little trickier, because some of the pieces have been rotated. You’ll have to rotate them as well as move them into position. (ETA: To rotate a piece, click on it and use the arrow keys.)
If you want to solve the puzzle pictured above (just for fun), it’s this one:

I tend to read and review a mix of genres and ages, and I know some of my readers do as well, so I tried to have something for almost everybody. 🙂 I couldn’t find any recent or forthcoming SF/F releases that fit the “holiday/winter” theme, though. There are a few older titles, but nothing this year. Oh, well!

I love puzzles! It took me so long before I finally had to give up and use help to find out how to rotate the puzzle pieces! ROFL. Arrow keys for the win… Great challenge!

This was such a relaxing and fun challenge. How did you make the puzzles? Thanks for the giveaway!

I’m glad you enjoyed it! There’s a free site called Jigsaw Planet that makes virtual jigsaw puzzles from whatever photo you upload. You can keep the puzzle private, share it to anyone with the link but not the public at large, or share it publicly on the site. And you can customize the puzzle to some extent. I went with a small number of pieces because the puzzles were small, but with a bigger, hi-res image you could make pretty complicated ones.

So many puzzles! Some were quick and others took me a while. I still need to finish number 10; I couldn’t figure out how to rotate the pieces. I liked the range of books you included. Fun!

I’m like that too — can’t leave a puzzle unfinished. I mean, if it’s a big, complicated, real jigsaw, it may take several days to finish, but I’ll keep working on it a bit at a time until it’s done.

I enjoyed the puzzles and your blog is great. It’s already beginning to feel like Christmas.
