Keep writing.
Advice I’ve gotten from other writers: It’s easy to get discouraged. Don’t give up. Write every day, even when you think it’s crap. Just keep writing.
As of the end of Day #7, with one week down, I have written 10,280 words. That includes scenes, snippets of dialog, brainstorming… basically, if it gets me closer to having a novel written, it counts. What I have written so far is dialogue-heavy, and it’s going to need a lot of revision. And I haven’t gotten close to the 25%-mark of the story, though I’m not too far off in total word count. The characters are really just getting started, figuring out what they need to do. Some of that is going to have to be trimmed down eventually. It’s awfully wordy. My family describes some books or movies as “a lot of walking and talking,” and so far, I’ve got a lot of talking and not all that much walking or other action yet.
But… it’s words! And even though I haven’t made the daily word count a couple of times, I have written every day. And I am only about 1390 words behind for the week. I can make that up. I can.
I have 10,280 words of a story that I wasn’t sure I would ever get down on paper, and that is freaking awesome.
Don’t give up.
I can do this. And so, my fellow NaNoWriMo writers, can you.

Keep going! You’ve got this.
There’s lots of good advice from published authors out there, but I recently read John Wiswell’s newsletter and he had some great advice: he said that you have to write whether the words are good or not, because that’s the only way you’ll have anything to edit.
“On the first draft I write for myself.
On my second draft I write for you.”
(Oh—speaking of: he’s still on Twitter, but he has also started a newsletter so that he can keep in touch with people even if Twitter goes away. I don’t know if you read his work or not, but just FYI in case you do and missed that.)
