The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
Sorry about the late post – I thought I had it scheduled, but apparently I had forgotten to actually click the “schedule” button. So I’ve updated it through Sunday night.
In real life: I spent the week much like the previous one: pruning and cataloging my books, conferring with contractors, and downsizing and packing other items for storage. In addition to all the work on the house, it looks like we will need several trees taken down.
Friday, a friend of mine and I carpooled up to Maryland for a craft retreat with members of our fiber guild. Twenty-one of us spent the weekend spinning, knitting, weaving, talking, laughing, and learning from each other. I plied a skein of yarn from 3 bobbins of singles that have been languishing since before Christmas, got help figuring out something I didn’t understand in the pattern for the vest I’m knitting, and started a new spinning project.
The retreat was at a beautiful retreat/conference center. I went out for a short walk Sunday morning to enjoy the beautiful grounds and the flowering trees, and do a little birdwatching. I spotted mockingbirds, crows, Canada geese, a red-winged blackbird, house finches, and a downy woodpecker. Also a squirrel eating an acorn in a tree, and large koi in the pond.
On the way home, I missed a turn, and ended up a stone’s throw from my childhood home, so I took a detour and visited the Friends Meeting House I attended as a child, then the campus of the school where I lived during those years (faculty and staff, including my mom, were housed on campus.)
5 Good Things:
- This weekend’s retreat was fantastic! It felt so good to unplug from the world and from all the work we’re doing on the house, and focus on creativity.
- It was wonderful to see the places I had loved as a child… and they look their loveliest in spring.
- The tally of books catalogued so far is up to 628. There’s still a long way to go, but that should be over a quarter of the total, maybe close to a third.
- We packed up the Easter decorations and baskets, as well as another box of Christmas stuff, and took them to the storage unit. Mr. Bookwyrm also took a bookshelf and a CD shelf to the storage unit, and several boxes of CDs. Progress!
- Audible had a really good sale on this week, and I got five books from my wishlist for under $14. I also picked up the new Ilona Andrews, using a credit.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I began This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (Ilona Andrews) last week on Kindle, but I decided it would go faster if I also listened to it on audio when I’m busy with housework or driving—especially because I have very little time to read these days. So I bought the Audible version with one of my credits. I’m still making my way through both, alternately. In the evenings, I reread The Liar (Nora Roberts), then started The Ship Who Dared (Mercedes Lackey & Veronica Giguere) since my preorder had come in.
Listening to: This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews (see above)
Watching: We finished All Creatures Great and Small, Season 5.
Playing: I haven’t had much time for reading, let alone games, but I have managed a few short sessions of Wingspan (phone app), plus an occasional NYT game: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, or Sudoku.

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published these reviews 10 years ago, between April 6 and April 12, 2016. UPDATE THIS

- The Murder of Mary Russell by Laurie R. King
- TOUR: The Corpse with the Garnet Face by Cathy Ace

The retreat sounds DIVINE. I’m glad you had a good time.

I love retreats like that for knitting or scrapbooking. So wonderful you could revisit some old haunts too.

It really was a joy!

Crafting retreats can be such a balm for the soul! It’s been way too long since I did one. My fiber friend group all moved away, though (me included) so organizing a retreat would be hard. Maybe I can figure out time to go visit one of them, and have a mini-retreat.
It sounds like you’re making good progress on the house & book cataloging, too! Great job on that. It can be a lot to tackle.
